Hi

Should Wayne Roony the ex Everton / Manchester United footballer and England stalwart, after retiring from England be brought back to play for England as a final farewell??

Cheers

MikeL2

Hi

There is a section of the football public that is very anti Rooney playing for his Country even though it will raise money for charity.

As the highest England goal-scorer and a winner of 119 caps I think it is a fair thing to to give him a last send off in respect of his service to the England fans.

Cheers

Have to disagree Mike,

Did the likes of Tom Finney, Nat Loftouse, Stanley Matthews, Bobby charlton even Bobby Moore, ever get such an honour?

He doesn't deserve it. His performances for England have been patchy and most of his England goals were scored against inferior opposition in minor games. And he could well have lost us a World Cup. Yes he's won lots of caps, etc. But, in terms of merit, he's well down the list of England legends.

And, in the good old days, winning a cap meant you played the whole gruelling ninety, often on a mudbath, not doing lots of little cameos off the bench.

Rooney's England goals. From Wiki.

Rooney never scored an international hat-trick, although he has scored twice in a match on ten occasions. He scored more times against San Marino than any other team, with five goals against them.

The majority of Rooney's goals came in qualifying matches. He scored 16 in World Cup qualifiers, including 9 during the 2010 World Cup qualification round where he finished as the second-equal top scorer, alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina's Edin Džeko and one behind Greece's Theofanis Gekas. Rooney has also scored 14 times in European Championship qualifiers. He scored four times in Euro 2004, ending the tournament as the second-equal top scorer alongside the Netherlands' Ruud van Nistelrooy and one behind the Czech Republic's Milan Baroš. He has only scored once in the World Cup finals, in a 2–1 loss to Uruguay in the 2014 tournament. The remainder of Rooney's goals, 16, came in friendlies.

So in the most important matches, the finals of Euro and the World Cup, over twelve years, he managed just seven goals, and four of those came in a single tournament. Not quite so impressive now, is it...

Hi Guys

Don't you think you are being a little curnudgeonly ??

I agree that many other players never got a chance for this kind of finishing his career. But we live in a different time and this may well be the start of something where more players who do deserve recognition for their service.

Come on guys it's nearly Xmas. Southgate is the new Santa....lol

Mo Salah has had a statue made.....and he's still not out of Kindergarten.

Cheers

Mike

Hi

Last night watched Roony's departure last night. He got a great reception and came on to play a small cameo roll. Knocked a few good passes around and nearly got on the end of a couple of balls in the area.

At least they didn't give him a Lordship like they yesterday for Kenny
Dalgleash sic.

England won 3-o most of which came from the first half. 2 good goals by Lingard and Alexander Arnold who for me was the man of the Match. He just keeps getting better every day. We have to play Croatia next who beat us in the recent world and who beat Spain last night. I think we will need to beat them to stay in.

Trent's lost his way a bit at Anfield this season so this accolade will do his confidence a power of good.
