Subject: RE: November Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 17 Nov 18 - 07:21 PM We're back home -- and a lovely session it was. I probably won't have time to post the crew and the songs until Monday. The first weekly trad session at The Press Room in over a year and a half is tomorrow. Erin, the manager, was very welcoming and, we talked after the session, really enjoyed our singing and is looking forward to tomorrow's session. Til later, then... Linn |

Subject: RE: November Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 19 Nov 18 - 07:33 PM It's been an interesting journey this past year and a half... So what do you think of the all new Press Room? I think they did an incredible job within the strictures of all the requirements to bring the 1840 building up to code...and all the deterioration they discovered in the process. I guess Jay Smith's duct tape could only last so long... But he's still there in the new space...as is Tom, David Behm, Eddie Daigle, Christian Albrecht, Barry Finn, Jim Howe, Will Northey, Stanley Longstaff, Dave Loomis, Rocky Rockwood, Tommy Gallant, John Duffy, Manny Fontana, Janie MacIntyre, Burt Feintuch, Phil Kerkhoff, MaryLou Bailey, Doug Campbell, Nate Christie... Musicians and friends. I started to post the crew and songs earlier, before I had to got out to do a bunch of errands and go to an important meeting, but my computer started hanging up and I ran out of time. Mañana... Somebody said I was the session meister this weekend -- three sessions in three days No. I'm the session goddess, I think. (Even if I forgot to do the "Thanksgiving Round" yesterday.) Until tomorrow... Linn |
Subject: RE: November Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: GUEST,Guest Dianne Date: 20 Nov 18 - 09:35 AM Indeed, we owe you a big "Thank You" Linn. For those of you who didn't make it, let me put your worries to rest. While the 'NEW' Press Room doesn't look like the "OLD" Press Room, it is truly improved. As you may have expected, the improvements to the kitchen and bathrooms encroached upon the space where we held court. However, the booth opposite the stairs along with the wood stove and piano were removed and a long curved banquette now runs along the back wall providing ample sitting and table configuration options. In addition, the front "bar" area has had the dividing wall taken out and lots of large high top tables added making the whole room more open. Dianne |
Subject: RE: November Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Jeri Date: 20 Nov 18 - 09:52 AM I think the re-model is great! There's still an original oriental rug on the stage upstairs, and people still pee on the seat in the bathroom(s?), and they acknowledged the fact that, although labeled M & F, folks used whichever wasn't occupied. The area where we had our session was quite cozy. I suppose it could be a function space, or just regular seating. It's also nice to not have staff that likes us. (The wait-person did, but I used to feel like the kitchen guys hated us.) Big thumbs up! |
Subject: RE: November Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 20 Nov 18 - 12:09 PM Here goes -- probably having to be done in several parts. The crew was me, Bruce MacIntyre, Pete Hale, Don Hale (from south of Boston), Dianne, Jeri, Gail Finn (alas, with laryngitis), Pete & Audi Souza with their daughter Zinnia up from Gloucester, Charlie Ipcar & Judy Barrows from north of Bath, ME, Gina & Bill Dunlap from Connecticut, Bill & Carol from Boston, Mike Modern, Justine, Alan Eaton, Paul Delnero...and listening we had Gail D. & her sister Janice, W.B., and Dave Johnson, plus the people at the bar and in the front of the room, including a couple with two daughters close to Zinnia's age. It was great seeing two sets of parents showing their children the joys of singing and making friends in pubs. Today, too, was the ceremonial passing of Tom's 1965 Guild D35NT to Pete Hale. I am so pleased that the guitar is staying "in the family". And I know Pete is pleased to have curatorship not only because it's a good guitar, but he appreciates that it was TOM HALL's (Mudcat's Curmudgeon) guitar. Bear with me -- I may have left songs out. I completely forgot about writing things down until we were four or five songs in. What we sang -- 1. Paddy Doyle's Boots - Linn (I SHOULD have sung "Fathom the Bowl" to launch the first session -- as I did in 2015 after a two month hiatus until the sprinkler/alarm system was installed.) 2. Haul Away for Rosie - Bruce M. 3. White Squall - Pete Hale 4. The Rosabella - Dianne 5. Shipmates - Don Hale 6. Roll the Cotton Down - Charlie Ipcar 7. Cannery Shed - Linn 8. Good Bye, My Love, Good Bye - Gina 9. The Mermaid - Pete Hale 10. Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her - Don Hale To be continued... |
