Subject: minuet question From: leeneia Date: 12 Nov 18 - 04:45 PM I've been looking at a book that Jack Campin described in another thread. In it I sometimes see a Country Dance and Minuet printed one after another. Are the dances related? Could we do the dance steps to one form and then to another? That would add interest to the evening. Here's the URL. One such set is on page 878. |
Subject: RE: minuet question From: BobL Date: 13 Nov 18 - 03:25 AM Leeneia, unfortunately your URL didn't make it into the post - maybe they don't travel well. Several country dances were published in the early 1700s with minuet titles and tunes. Unlike the original minuet, which was a couple dance, these were ordinary longways set dances, but done with a minuet step. These days they're generally done with a walking step just like any other 3/2 dance - Colin Hume (among others) has tried to re-introduce the minuet step but it hasn't caught on. Now let's see if that link maker works: try here, and find page 70. |
Subject: RE: minuet question From: Jack Campin Date: 13 Nov 18 - 07:23 AM The minuets in that magazine have neither dance instructions nor specific titles, so they can't very well be intended as country dances. They have to be either old-style minuets or listening pieces. |
Subject: RE: minuet question From: leeneia Date: 13 Nov 18 - 12:56 PM I was wondering if the same moves would do for both dances. Of course the dancers would have to adjust to the change in time and tempo. |
Subject: RE: minuet question From: leeneia Date: 13 Nov 18 - 01:02 PM Sorry about the link. Today Google says the site can't be reached. |
