Subject: Obit: Stan Lee (Marvel comics) From: Nigel Parsons Date: 12 Nov 18 - 05:42 PM Just heard the news. A large part of my growing up (or not growing up)has suddenly been taken from us, aged 95. He showed that 'super-heroes' could also be men with feet of clay. Teenage angst was summed up by Pater parker (Spider-Man) The obit just shown on BBC news included many clips of his cameo appearances in the films based on his characters. R.I.P. 'Excelsior!' Show respect and put it back up above the line, where all mudcatters can pay tributes if they want to. Stan Lee is worth far more to our worldwide culture & folklore than a thousand average uninspired folk singers... Us Brit kids in the 60s had "Fantastic" & "Terrific" comics, which provided a cheap weekly Black and White anthology of Marvel comic strips; to introduce us to, and catch up on several years worth of the American comic sagas. Shame to have missed out and not enjoyed the full colour comics experience, but otherwise families like mine would never have been able to afford all the different titles required every month to follow all the intertwined characters and stories of the extensive mind boggling Marvel Universe... Waiting before breakfast for the newspaper boy to deliver these comics was the highlight of every dreary school week...
