Mama Kat, I feel burned out. Does LeeJ make anything spiked with spirulina? I hope Alison doesn't mind if I put my head down on her lap and nap for a bit.
Catspaw, why is Cleigh, always so wet.

Spaw! Hey, Sssssppppaaaaawwww!!!! I am over here!!

Sheesh, ya got those dark glasses on again!?? Wot's a Kat gotta do to git yer attenshun!??

There, there, Bonnie, darlin', just rest here a bit, I'll have ole LeeJ mix you up a power shake with lots of berries, rice milk, protein powder, and some cracked ice. It won't put hair on yer chest, but it'll get yer blood sugar going and perk ya right up there, sweetie. LeeJ, if ya would, please?? We got a young-un here what needs a little pampering.

How 'bout singing something calm and quiet now for a few minutes, phoaks?

How about one of mine own? "Habbanan Beneath The Stars" was a favorite of my Composition Class teacher, and is purported to have a quieting effect on people. Let me get at that guitar again...

Mbo: 'Faid not, MBO, my Richards line ended up in Texas after landing in Boston, MA from Ireland, then on to Alabama, Tennessee and finally Texas. I thought, too, there might be some connection since we both have an affinity for folk music.

Ahhh...British Isles Richards. Folks always think that my last name has some sort of BI connection, but my Richards relatives were German. I read in a book about German immigration that "Richards" was often an Ellis Island change for the name "Reichartz." It's sad, no one knows when they came over, exactly where they were from, or what their original name was. But music can create relatives sometimes stronger than blood! Let's play! Where was I? Oh yes. "In Habbanan, beneath the stars, where all roads end, however long..." Is this working, Bonnie?

Ah, same old tavern. Nice fire, nice music, nice neat whiskey. Mmmm, my kind of place, and lots of nifty Catters here too. Say Doug R, how long is the line? Oh and Llanfair and BB, I've brought a couple pairs of fuzzy slippers and a few walking sleeping bag bathrobes (someone gave me one for Christmas, and it's great. I look like a penguin in it, but I don't care, it's warm and at this time of year, that is a priority.) Oh, and I've brought a few Kahlua Chocolate Chip cookies, and some Spinach tiropitas (I know, it isn't steak and kidney pie, but I have a reputation to maintain out there)

Now for that neat whiskey and a nice spot at the end of the massage line. Oh, and I'd love to sing Seven Bridges Road if anyone is up for a bit of harmony on that one.

The door flies open and the biggest damn Mick in the village comes in, snow covered and kicking the ice of his boots. His mustache and beard are filled with ice crystals and he stands his cross country skis in the corner..........AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH........nothing like a cruise around the Hidden Lake trail to get the blood moving........and speaking of blood moving, who are these faux layabouts that are rubbing THE FAIR ONE'S feet and shoulders. Perhaps we need to go for a walk and discuss this...........what THE FAIR ONE?..........OK,OK, put the griddle down, he can finish....Yes, Yes, I know that if I had been in here taking care of business then I could have been.......shit, DougR, please continue on.........huh?......get in the traces?????........Now you know that I would do almost anything for you, but I saw that Koko is going to be behind me........The griddle?.......I am deathly afraid of an Irishwoman under full sail with a griddle in her hand, but it will take a pistol to get me in those traces with Koko....FAIR ONE, where the hell did you get that pistol???????????..........shit, I want to go back to the Castle............

And Susan A-R, you will never have to wait in line for my services. Sidle on up here and prepare yourself. Big Mick is here and he won't abide my laying a hand or hands on Alison from this point on. Quick! Guiness and a place by the fire!!!!Just got through having it out with Knute in the parking lot, seems he's been nailing little cleats to the reindeer's hooves in an effort to get better traction for the next go round. Can't have that. Seeing as I'm a lass that's fit for a rumble, what say we talk the possum into covert action? Promise him a few more of the mints from the men's room, and see if he'll slide into Knute's parka for a tango. More Guiness! Ta to Susan for the bathrobe, penguin or not, you cut a dashing figure. Forget the santa bikini dear, leave them something to wonder about. Here's to Knute, and prayers that he's had his shots updated. Elle

Habban Beneath the Stars was lovely...I've finished my pint and now I'm spoiling for a wee rumble. I found the possum, he was rolling in the jello pit with the cat. (The next batch of kitties on that couch are going to look awfully strange) He's agreed to go along with the plan so long as there is a foot-rub in it for him when he gets back. I told him the bloke on the floor would do it when he woke up. Sorry, but there isn't enough protection in the world for ME to do it after what I saw in the jello. Now for the distraction....I'm thinking a rousing "Night the Old Dunn Cow Caught Fire". I'll sneak out to old Knute, unzip the penguin get-up just a wee bit, and give the guy a glimpse of lily white shoulder, then on your first "MACINTYRE" I'll send in the marsupial. Should be smashing. Spaw, get the grin off your chops and do something useful. Write a few verses of "Possum Protruding from My Penguin Pajamas" and I'll be back in time to sing in the chorus. Elle.

From: Dave (the ancient mariner)
Date: 29 Dec 99 - 04:14 PM

Friendly little "bugger" that possum (no pun intended) he seems to like Black Bushmill's so he can't be all bad.

Ye mariners all as ye pass by,
Come in and drink if you are dry,
Come spend my lads your money brisk,
And pop your nose in a jug of this.

Oh mariners all if you've half a crown,
You're welcome all for to sit down,
Come spend my lads your money brisk,
And pop your nose in a jug of this.

Oh tipplers all as you pass by,
Come in and drink if you are dry,
Come in and drink think naught amiss,
And pop your nose in a jug of this.

Oh now I'm old and can scarcely crawl,
Aye a long grey beard and a head that's bald,
Crown my desire, fulfill my bliss,
A pretty girl and a jug of this.

Oh when I'm in my grave and dead,
And all my sorrow are passed and fled,
Transform me then into a fish,
And let me swim in a jug of this...............

Pass the jug boys and where be them lasses?
Yours, Aye. (Looking fer a dance) Dave

Knots are entertaining lass, but it's the bends and hitches; not to mention the odd splice or two, that are the most fun to a sailor. "My bonny lies over the ocean, my bonny lies over the sea, my bonny lies over the ocean, oh bring back my bonny to me" Now if ye wantto know the naughty version of that one, pull alongside real close so I can whisper the words to ye; cause I'm really quite shy an afraid I might get kicked out of this fine Tavern. Keeping 'em guessing isn't half of it JenEllen. With this luxurious robe, you are never sure how many people are inside. Neat trick that.

I believe I'll have a nice stout and warm up on a few shanties so that I can sing Come By the Hills in the sweet style it requires. NO Cleigh, you may not have a sip. Spaw has cut you off, and I quite agree. Besides, I now have a clay bear whistle of me own, and a bear outweighs a possum any day, so mind your manners.

Thanks much for the massage DougR. No one who gives back/foot rubs like that is harmless. Mostly harmless perhaps, but . . .

"OH, the weather outside is frightful..."

Sorry phoaks, I know it's cozy in here, but I need every able-bodied man, woman, and possum to yank on their mucklucks and give me a hand. Roger the Skiffler just radioed to say he was stuck in a snow drift with a semi-load of Guinness, Bushmill's, Carlsberg and other assorted Y2K essentials, about 200 yards down the road. But before we go out on this errand of mercy, line up at the bar for your choice of cognac, scotch, bourbon or peppermint schnapps. We'll kindle a little fire in your hearts that'll last til we dig the Skiff out of his predicament.

Sad Song For Mbo.

She's like a swallow that fly's so high, she's like a river that never runs dry, she's like the sunshine on the lee shore, My Love My Love, but love is no more.

Twas down in the garden this fair maid did go, plucking the beautifull primerose, and the more she plucked the more she did pull, until she had here apron full.

Then of these flowers she made a bed, a stoney pillow laid at her head, and she lay down not a word did she spake. until this fair maids heart did break..........................

Sob, Sob, sorry mates, this one always breaks me heart when I sings it Dave Boo Hooing running away embarrased (ruined image of tough guy, disgraced hairy arsed sailor)

(A weary looking man enters, brushing the snow from his black Stetson and shaking loose from his black leather duster. His right hand hovers over a bodrhan slung at his hip. His left hand holds a bulging gunny sack. His long hair is tied back to walk in the storm.)

So this is where you all go when I can't find you! Pubman! A Guiness, if you will, and a dram of Drambuie to carry the flag! It's been a rare holiday, boys. Haggis for twenty and the family game o' spoons. What, you don't know how to play? Well you shuffle two decks o' cards and give each fool at the table five. Then the dealer draws one and tries to make three of a kind. If the card is not the one he needs, he passes it left. First to make three o' a kind picks up a spoon. Of course there's one less mouth-shovel than players don'tcha know. In my clan we plays with knives…The stitches look right fine, don'tch think?

Anyway, We were tryin' to choke down th' haggis, (tall tumblers of single malt help!) when me dear sainted mother says, "sing fer us Mikal." An' bats those nearly lashless eyes at me. What is a poor man to do, eh? So I stand and deliver in good fashion, runnin' a fair beat on the old skin-box here. I whirl my way through "Mary's Wedding," and do a good turn on ""The Wren."

All this time I see that I have been singing', the family has been packin' away the haggis to beat the band! If I am a man o' even simple brains, I figure I need to sing a bit longer, and they will have eaten all mine too!

What? You've never had haggis, girl? Imagine the stomach of a sheep, stuffed with oats and all the parts of the animal no human and few dogs would eat! Boil it in the stomach for an hour or so, and serve it grey and quivering on a platter with whiskey to drink. It's Scotland's revenge on all of us who came here instead of staying home in the highlands where we should have.

Anyway, I think I have it made! I decide one more song and I will not have to eat this stuff for a whole 'nother year. Then bang! I did it. What should come out of my mouth but "Some friends an' I in a public house, were playin' dominoes last night…" (Sorry, didn't mean to make you all run fer cover like that…I won't sing it, I promise!)

You guessed it; Knives went flyin'. Th' game o' spoons was delayed until all the sharps could be re-assembled and the bleeding could be staunched. An' to top it off, I had to take all the leftover haggis. It's in the gunny sack there, if you've a stout stomach…

Pubman! A liter of Guiness this time. I've a wish to sing. Anyone here know the fiddle part to "Colonial Boy???"

Mikal

Somewhere about my person I have a hip flask of atholl brose which should go nicely with left over haggis ( yum, my favourite!) Dave, come back, no-one minds a good sob in a sing around, it shows the songs are working! By the bye, who's gonna rescue the booze AFTER Cleetus et al have rescued the booze?

Mikal! Good to see you. Hope the holidays were filled with good memories for you. Put the haggis down o'er by the jello pit, the flamingos will probably polish it off.
