Thanks Joe, Reading through that thread it’s a similar story to mine. Old family song that people are trying to trace. Sadly the lyrics don’t match up and they don’t fit with the tune either.
I appreciate your help

Hi, Diane - I can't find that exact song, but it tells the same story as our Bread and Gravy (click) songs.

Thank you all for your replies. Music hall sites are great idea I didn’t think of that.

I know there is a song about bread butter toast and jam but that’s not it

The bread and butter song lyrics that I can remember are

Let’s all sing the bread and butter song, butter song
All the week from Monday
And if you feel alright, just to satisfy your appetite you can have a bite of meat on Sunday

Then there’s a bit more and something like
If you’re coming in you’ll soon be going out and if you’re going out you’ll soon be coming in

Do these ring any bells?

Diane

It's not the Bard song.

The Bathing Machine Attendant - Wilkie Bard
? might be a contender but I couldn't find any lyrics.
It's listed on Spotify but is greyed out.

It might be worth asking on a "music hall" type site?

Hello to the original poster. Neither song is familiar to me right off, but many of us are good at searching for songs if we have enough clues.
I've heard a number of bread and butter songs, including the one Gurney mentions. Please tell us all that you can recall of these songs. It may lead us all to the songs you seek. Even if we don't find the right songs, we'll have fun looking.

I have a vague memory of a song that starts....

I like bread and butter,
I like toast and jam,....

Hi
Was wondering if anyone could help me. My dad (nearly 90) loves a sing along but is losing his memory. I’m trying to trace songs he used to sing us when we were kids in the 1960s. The first one is The bread and butter song. It’s kind of our family anthem but I can’t find a recording of it anywhere.
The second is a folk tale/story about a family trip to the beach when the bathing machine floats out to sea.
I know it’s a long shot but anyone got any ideas.? I’ve googled, you tubed etc for weeks with no luck
