In the continued absence of Mudcatter Liz the Squeak, and a few others,
there have been several years with no Mudcat Recovery Ward.
In fact, since newbie me joined, I don't think there has been one.
The only Recovery Wards I have encountered on the Mudcat, have been threads that went to sleep.

Look, I'm not wishing ill health or misfortune on anybody.
'Specially not on me!!!

But having said that ...
maybe we should have a place for Mudcatters
who are shocked and stunned by such events as
obit threads that occur in clusters, so help me.
Is it just me, or
have there been 'way too many obit threads at once?

And people coming down with stuff,
and taking a turn for the worse ...

so how about a thread for those who need to recover?

Nurse Ratched nailed the door shut on her side - the route into the recovery ward is through the coat closet from the Mudcat Tavern - the one to the left of the bar. I see you struggled mightily with a pry bar to loosen all of the nails she put in the door through the frame. You have a couple of splinters. If I were you I'd quietly tiptoe over to the first aid cabinet and clean and cover them with Polysporin and bandaids yourself - Ratched is famous for using stinging iodine on wounds.

What a lovely idea keberoxu! I too have noticed the number of folk on Mudcat who have been ill, are ill at the moment or have problems in their lives.
Here in UK, January is a difficult month - dark, dreary and Christmas is over and done with.

In the Mudcat Tavern, as SRS says, there's a lovely place for quiet rest and recovery. The Old Lady and the Smiling African Man are still around, so come and sit on the huge sofa for a while and have a little chat, make use of a listening ear or have a refreshing doze by the log fire.

If your state of health allows you to have buttered crumpets and a nice pot of tea, the Old Lady will put the kettle on and serve you. African Man is excellent at toasting crumpets!

I made a batch of gut-friendly oatmeal with minced up figs for extra calcium. Dish up a bowl with a modest amount of honey or brown sugar, topped with organic milk. I'm a tea drinker but I don't believe I've ever had a crumpet.

Walks quietly past the curtained area where Jessup friends and family have gathered, and hums along with the song someone is singing to soothe all.

PS. I trust the tea is made with proper tea leaves - no plastic tea bags needed.

He's very, very good around the house Jos. Very handy, neat and tidy - a rare quality for a bloke!
I've plumped up the cushions for you, and yes, the tea is made with real tea-leaves. Would you care for a crumpet? Or there are slices of my homemade coffee and walnut cake if you prefer? Or a sultana scone?

I could do with a change of diet. My brother in law is a chef and gave us an enormous and excellent Christmas cake amongst other goodies. However there is only my wife and I here, and she is on a strict diet in preparation for an op, so I pretty much have to eat the whole thing. Anyone care to take some slices off waistline hands?

Do I have to choose? Well, OK, if I have to choose it'll be crumpets.

I am now feeling very mellow. My Christmas tree is naked apart from the fairy, who will fly down at midnight, and the tree in its pot will go back into the garden until next December. What the tree thinks of this annual palaver I know not.

How lovely that your tree goes on from year to year and doesn't die and get shredded for mulch material Jos!
I think the Mudcat Recovery Ward tree has been replanted in the Tavern garden, and there is now a pot of gorgeous delft blue hyacinths sitting on the central table. That should make everyone look towards Spring.

Now, who needs a bedpan? Anyone?

I won a tin of Quality Street in my mum's care home raffle just before Christmas. And I mean a TIN, not one of those pathetic and shrinking supermarket plastic versions. But my sister's been down for a couple of days. She spent an hour or two with me mum on Friday, along with a large tin of Celebrations. So, on Saturday, there I was with mum as she offered me the Celebrations. Eager I was as I prised off the lid - but do you know what? There was not a single bloody Bounty or Malteser one left. Not a one. The two best ones in the box for chrissake. My sister had sat there and systematically cleared the tin of both those, and had not eaten a single one of any of the others. Unbebloodylievable! So last night I thought twice about producing the Quality Street tin. No way, José. It's still hidden, still intact as I speak, and my sister is now safely back in Huddersfield. Jays, she might have swiped all the Purple Ones before I got a look in!

Sounds like the Mudcat Tavern crowd has all squeezed through that closet and into the Ward. Keeping your voices down and some singing for those in here who aren't well is entirely appropriate. And watch out for Ratched. The cats are all welcome to cuddle on the feet of any patient beds, and there's a special dog curled on Amos' bed. Give Maggie a pat if you pass by.

Ha Steve, I absolutely loathe the Malteser and Bounty ones! That tin would have been safe with me.

Old Lady has brought dog treats and cat treats for the pets on the beds. And a treat for Squiddy in the jello pit out there. Is Chongo around? She has some bananas.

Steve, doctor says it's time for your enema my dear. I'm just preparing the enema trolley...

Today I feel as though somebody pulled the plug.
I even felt too fatigued to get behind the steering wheel
and drive the car.

Better take it easy.

An enema will give you a great feeling of accomplishment.
Better than pulling the plug is to up the morphine drip.
All I know is that everyone has bio rhythms of fatigue, depressions and energy spurts. Drama queens make them sound worse than they are.
No drama Malala would tell you the same thing. :^1

No-one here is a 'drama queen'. If one feels poorly, one feels poorly.

Keberoxu sinks onto the very comfy sofa, puts her feet up on the footstool and warms herself by the log fire. The Old Lady fetches her a lovely hot buttered crumpet. Another pot of tea and one of excellent coffee are carried in by the two Siamese cats. There is coffee cake and a Victoria sponge on a very posh lace doily.

Steve is having his enema in a side room. He needs it due to constipation after the Liverpool match result...

Definitely in need of some TLC from the Mudcat Recovery room, having caught the current respiratory virus on Boxing Day: missed all the parties, and I have been very poorly! If there's any space on that lovely sofa by the warm and glowing fire (move up ya b*ggers!)I'll come and join you for a nice cup of mint tea and a slice of that coffee cake. Happy to have Siamese cats snuggle up for a stroke and a purr.

Everyone moves up and poorly Tattie sinks into the comfy sofa. Smiling African Man brings mint tea and coffee cake on a fine porcelain plate (Royal Crown Derby)
Paracetamol is dispensed (2X500mg)
Siamese are purring loudly and soft music plays. (any requests?)
Old Lady distributes tissues and some very nice sweets/chocolates.
Forget post-Crimbo diets for now!

I had better stay off that sofa
if I don't want to start snoring. I have got an ugly snore.

But moving to a cot means attracting the wrong sort of attention.

Old Lady administers Magic Anti-Snore tincture. One teaspoonful and no more snoring at all.

Many thanks to the Siamese kitties for the excellent coffee, and the yummy munchies!

Love the Cat Duet. We were treated to an excellent rendition a few days after arriving in Toronto last October by a countertenor and a tenor; have heard it many times, but those two men (particular the countertenor) had a lot of fun with it. They even put on fluffy cat ear headbands to get in the mood.

It was indeed, Tattie Bogle!

Always good to get a proper diagnosis, then the healing can start.

Bugger me down, yesterday afternoon I tripped and fell on the brick path in our back yard. Now have a skinned right knee which doesn't like to be bent, a bruise on the inner side of my right wrist (which is not terribly tender, thank goodness), a sore left foot with a specially sore big toe, and a very hurty left thumb.

But none of those bits have fallen off yet, so that's a bonus.

A large van arrives and delivers two more huge sofas and some footstools, plus lots more comfy cushions. These are arranged near the fire so that all the latest casualties can find a roomy place to relax.

Tins of sweets and chocolates are dotted around on side-tables, and the Siamese cats trot in and out with more tea and coffee.

Smiling African Man brings a large tray with various cakes, and some home-made sausage rolls and Cornish pasties for those who prefer savouries.
Poor JennieG! Thank goodness you didn't break any bones though.

Hi, everybody! As almost a permanent resident due to effects from two cancers, bad burns, diabetes and a recent ulnar fracture, I can tell you that a lot of the same crew still work here, Nurse Ratched and her boyfriend down in Radiology, X-Ray Ted, Hurty Gertie over in therapy, Ex-female boxer Bedpan Dora of the clean-up staff, Dr. Lance Boyles, and more. Alas, my former love interest, armless therapy nurse Intervenous De Milo transferred over to Our Lady Of The Inconceivable Conception across town, but look around you and see what old and new faces are still around the old Horse-Spittle.

Actually, the closing of the link from the Tavern to the Ward was a mutual thing agreed to after the young squidlets managed to invade the Ward and wreak havoc. Since Squiddy is now a happily married father, we don't have to fret over the attempted romance of The Squid and Nurse Ratched. The back chronicles of the Ward are still in the Mudcat Archives for those who are new to the Ward and those who are merely nostalgic......

Just to let you know the bathing suit area has been newly designated "Sauna o Beach" I thought some of you were still celebrating Xmas until I realized that you were singing "O,

The quality of the food seems to have gotten worse ever since Chef Eatie Gourmet suddenly got sick and "Dishpan Hans" from the cleanup end of things had to temporarily take over under emergency conditions. Even the Green Jello tastes a little soapy. I guess no one told him that the "Wash Your Hands Before You Return To Work" sign also implies rinsing them......

I don't remember Radio Malt, so it's not an age thing.
However, you can still get several different brands of malt extract (with or without cod-liver oil). You can use it to make a malt loaf, or spoon it into your children if you, and they, are so inclined - it might be nice stirred into hot milk as an Ovaltine substitute.
If we are going to have it in the recovery ward, can we have the version without the cod-liver oil?

My two friends called Susan had Virol, but my mother swore by Radio Malt.
I must have been a paragon of virtue, as I adored anything she dosed me with. Just after the War, the Welfare State made efforts to ensure rickets and malnutrition were avoided in children, so we had all these tasty (to me!) things to supplement our diets.
I loved greens, cabbage and sprouts too. And even secretly ate raw liver when I could sneak some out of the larder. Weird child.

Now where is that Steve? Old Lady has ordered in some very expensive wine for him to taste.
And it looks as if more comfy sofas should be ordered, as snow is forecast and poorly folk will want to sit by the fire.

When I was a child we had government issue orange juice - concentrated, in oblong-shaped medicine style bottles. Much nicer and more nutritious than the orange squash we had when we were older.
My children had Virol (which in our house was called 'sticky-brown-medicine') - a big spoonful each every day.
What I really REALLY liked was gripe water.

I remember those glass bottles of orange juice. Lovely stuff.
What did gripe water taste of? I don't think I ever tried that.

We had National Dried Milk (silvery tin with blue on) which I seem to remember was later found to be deficient in some vitamin or other.

Now my question is, why is he called Mr Hankey? What do hankies have to do with poo?

And speaking of tattoos, would anyone welcome a small tattoo parlour in the Recovery Ward? Any requests and what would one like?
No prizes for guessing mine. A large crumpet, two Siamese cats and maybe a very small Mr Hankey. Lots of space on my ...er...rear end.

Thank God he's been keeping her occupied. I doubt anyone has found a love match for Hurry Gertie over in Therapy, so I still come out hurting more coming out than I did coming in. I tried to beg to the Men's bathroom to hide at Therapy time, but they've been stationing Bedlam Dora outside Mg room to thwart any escape attempts. I can recall a classical pianist here in Oz who rejoiced in the name of - can't vouch for the spelling, it was quite a while ago - Sonia Hanke (pronounced Hanky). Himself used to joke about "what's on ya hankie"......

The Lurgy has made a visit to our house, Himself is fine but I have succumbed. Not the worst case I have ever had, but not the best. Gave quilt group a miss this morning, I reckoned the other women didn't want me coughing and croaking all over the table.

Sonia Hanke will play Beethoven's 'Emperor' 5th piano concerto later, when she's collected a clean hanky from the Tavern linen room. (There's a large concert grand piano in the adjacent Music Room)

X-Ray Teddy is available for cuddles if one books a session.

Old Lady has made a large nut-and-chocolate sponge with real cream filling and a very nice quiche (home-made pastry, not for Muslims as there's lard and butter in it)
Smiling African Man is already helping himself to an enormous slice muttering "Bismillah" something-or-other (which I think means'Sorry God')

Well, this has been another rough year and I am definately in need of a visit to the recovery ward. As if having my house burn down was not enough to contend with I have also been diagnosed with malignant melamona and am dealing with the aftermath of surgery to remove a couple of pesky moles on my back. A much larger portion was removed than I had expected and with over 20 stitches, I am restricted in my movements in order to promote healing. Gonna step into the recovery ward to lick my wounds...and have some tea and crumpets! Is there any   marmite on site? Put another log on the fire! Let's have a song~

open mike is warmly welcomed by Squiddy, the Siamese cats, the Old Lady, Smiling African Man and all the recuperating guests.
Tea, crumpets, cake and a huge jar of Marmite are set before him, and a soft cushion is gently placed at his sore back.

But Old Lady has her eye on the Marmite - she adores the stuff and will probably nick some later.

Singing (a bit difficult while scoffing all the food!) will start any minute now.
Suggestions for the first song?

As for a song, since Marmite has been mentioned, you could do no better than one of our fellow Mudcatters, Kevin McGrath (McGrath of Harlow) with his "Marmite Song" on how to find this delicacy in a supermarket: chorus "The Bovril's with the gravy, and the Marmite's with the jam."

One can wear what one likes in the hot tub Mrrzy. Or nothing if one prefers. The Old Lady would probably be a terrifying sight without clothes on though, and cause all the convalescents to suffer a relapse, so she will wear her large, baggy swimsuit.

I've just listened to the Marmite Song - excellent and very funny.
It seems to sum up how life is organised doesn't it? "The Bovril with the gravy and the Marmite with the jam."

Husband always finds it odd searching for his pate d'arachide* in Tesco and finding it with the jam.

(*There should be a circumflex over the 'a' but despite lots of kind folk on here explaining how to do it, I haven't mastered my laptop yet in 'foreign'.)

sandra hobbles in with a strapped left knee & permanently sore right foot - it's not easy, you know, limping on 2 limbs ...

gets out broken old fiddle to play a sad tune(less) & sings tunelessly - I was born badly put together according to my first physio all those decades ago ... & a slight twist to left knee when getting up just before Christmas meant ouch!! & lots of physio exercises.

poor me ... pour me some butter on a few crumpets, or better still provide a dipping bowl of hot butter so I can dip them

yum! I instantly feel better, & will feel even better when the excellent Mudcat musicians & singers get going ...

Financial Director Kent A. Fordham has assured me in a letter that my insurance is still paying for all this, so I'll be sticking around for a while longer. That's good, because I don't want to have a MRI lapse, as I have one coming up. MRIs are made of this.

I looked out the window to the parking lot the other day and saw Dr. Aiken from Pain Management get into a fancy sports car whose custom tags read "OP8", which I found a little disconcerting......

The Dreaded Lurgy now has me well and truly in its grippe, couldn't even make it to the end of choir on Thursday night. I left early. Was able to hum but as for singing - forget it. My voice is shot at present. Lots of sore muscles and ribs from coughing.

But never mind. This, too, shall pass.

Subject: RE: LYR ADD - Skin Cancer Blues - John Dengate
From: Sandra in Sydney
Date: 03 Sep 15 - 02:45 AM

just before The Big Crash I posted this song & it disappeared into the Great Big Hole & was never seen again.

I just found the words (white paper in a plastic sheet protector - how many of those do I have???) so here it is again & the words below have been pasted from my very own copy.

The Skin Cancer Blues (1994) by John Dengate (aka. Solar Melanoma Blues)

Once I had the skin of a newborn child,
Pure and smooth and undefiled.
My blue eyes sparkled like the morning dew
And on my back, just a freckle or two.
Out in the sun with never a care;
Back and belly and head all bare;
No sunscreen, no shirt, no shoes
And now I'm singing the skin cancer blues.

chorus

Oh, it's no mismomer,
Singing the solar melanoma blues.
Fifty-five summers of Australian heat
And now I'm walking down Macquarie Street;
Clutching my referral ...
Must defer to the medical code.
I'm telling you, without a doubt;
They burn and freeze and scrape and cut them out!

I hope they're not malignant ...
I get indignant if I hear that word.
The doctor says; "Son, you'll be fine,
Those beggars on your back - they're all benign".
Be a sensible chap, though:
Buy yourself un petit chapeau (That's a little hat ...)
If I kick the bucket, don't blame the booze;
Sing me to salvation with the skin cancer blues.

chorus

Oh, it's no mismomer,
Singing the Solar melanoma blues.
Fifty-five summers of Australian heat
And now I'm walking down Macquarie Street:
Clutching my referral ...
Must defer to the medical code.
I'm telling you, without a doubt;
They burn and freeze and scrape and cut them out!

Amos Jessup asked me to et everyone know that he's doing well. He has improved at least 75% since the Big Fall, and continues in slowly get better every day. He wants to thank all the people who have so kindly expressed concern and encouragement. He just came back from an assisted walk up the block and back. He's started playing guitar and singing with friends. He feels that through time, he is going to recover 100%.

Love,
Daly

That is excellent news, gnu! Thank you for passing it on.

Today I arose from my bed of suffering and pain to kick out a medley arrangement of a few old waltzes for our uke group......but in doing so managed to lose a whole line of 'Mexicali Rose'. Never mind, it has now been reinstated and all is well.

I just wish this summer cold would go. I am so sore from coughing and so miserable from lack of sleep due to said cough.

But this, too, shall pass. Eventually.

Excellent news about Amos - very pleased to hear it, and thanks for passing it on gnu.

Jennie, your Lurgy sounds like the one I had last year. Cough blooming cough cough cough. I ended up with one lung making a strange hooting sound when I breathed out. It wasn't an infection, just the tail-end of the endless blinking cold germ which had gone on for weeks. I called it 'The Haunted Lung'!

Donuel, don't feel guilty about being healthy. Smiling African Man and Old Lady are in the best of health at the moment, but are enjoying hanging around tending to those less fortunate, as best they can.

Would you like a toasted crumpet and a nice cup of tea Donuel? Or perhaps you could do a bedpan round? :)

And I am fully recovered, but can I stay on as a ward orderly? (Or as described in one medical report - "This patient is an axillary nurse" - to which the reply is - Which axilla (armpit) does she specialise in?)
Preferably no bedpans but very good at hospital corners and mouth toilet.

Of course Tattie, you can be an axillary (!) nurse. Armpits need a lot of care and attention hee hee.

Pneumonia needs careful nursing Severn. Anyone with that should be monitored constantly. Warm wishes for a swift recovery.

I was a temporary 'axillary' nurse (love that Tattie!) at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmar every year during the long summer vacations at University.

I absolutely adored every minute, and didn't mind one bit the poo, sick, blood and wee that I had to clear up constantly.

Bedpans in those days were steel, not the papier maché things one gets now. They had to be sterilised in The Sluice. And given to a patient warmed, with a stiff shiny square of Izal loo paper folded around the rim to carry it.

My pet hate was the blooming Laundry Store. One of my jobs was to count all the stuff in there, re-fold and restock etc. Boring.

But one magic week I was detailed to assist the Theatre Orderly in cleaning and tidying Theatre One. Magic. I saw all sorts of amputated bits and pieces lying in bowls for transport to the Medical School.
The odd gangrenous leg, ovarian cyst etc. Most interesting.
I had to wear scrubs and natty white rubber wellingtons, and mop the floor.
I reckon I missed my vocation. Teaching was brilliant, but nursing... fabulous!

At this moment, I'm tucking into a lovely Ginsters chicken and mushroom pie, with spinach leaves, a Greek yoghurt and some small pink grapes. And of course, a nice cup of strong tea!

All is good, the Dreaded Lurgy is edging out the door as we speak. Haven't coughed much for the past couple of days, just a bit in bed at night - I have noticed the cough is worse if I lie on my left side, so I try not to. My ribs and muscles are thankful.

Uncommonly warm for February here in rhe UK: even in Edinburgh, tho needed a fleece and a warm jacket to stroll by the Forth this afternoon, and opted for coffee INDOORS rather than outdoors at the Beach Cafe at Silverknowes. The whole area was teaming with people running, walking, scooting, cycling, taking dogs out! And we were on today's incoming flight path: planes a few inches overhead every 2 minutes!
Not doing so well with the Meniere's Disease: 4-hour dizzy turn on Friday night, and still off balance yesterday,so glad to be out for some fresh air, with husband to catch me if I should fall over!

Oh Tattie, I know only too well that awful dizziness! I get bouts of vertigo (vestibular neuronitis) and it's like being on a sailing ship in a severe storm. The ground whirls beneath one's feet and the walls spin. Consequence: nausea and vomiting. Can last up to four days. Lots of sympathy, you poor lass.

Fresh air is good for convalescent folk, and one can always use a bit of nice sunshine.
We had 16 degrees here today. Had a relaxing walk down by the Wensum.

The Mudcat Recovery Ward has a little garden with several wooden benches where folk can sit and chat in the sunshine. Cool fruit drinks are being served by Siamese cats and Smiling African Man (who is wearing his brightly-coloured W African outfit, consisting of tunic and loose trousers plus little white hat). Old lady is popping in and out with various salad dishes containing healthy foods.
We shall all feel so much better for a bit of nice Spring weather! :)

Naturally, the Old Lady wishes everyone a super-speedy recovery, but if truth were told, will miss all the patients once they've danced away feeling much better.

Smiling African Man has just made a terrifically hot 'Spicy Horror' with four Scotch bonnets in it. There are turkey pieces, onions, tomatoes, peanut butter (!) oodles of salt, curry powder and who knows what else in it.
I should think it would burn people's tongues, but might be good if anyone is constipated. However, one's innards will never be the same again, and we don't have quite enough bedpans! :)

Thank you, keberoxu......I am, finally!

It is difficult to breeze through the day when one is dog tired (don't know why dogs should get tireder than any other critter, but there you are) from disturbed sleep because of cough cough coughing.

Never ever take a good night's rest for granted, folks.

Voice is still slightly croaky but it, also, is improving. Even made it through a ukulele gig on Friday morning without dissolving into paroxysms of cough, for which I was very thankful.

Someone at quilt guild on Saturday mentioned that there has been a bug going around which is like whooping cough without the whoop, mostly affecting children. Sounds suspiciously like what was bothering me.

Now, back to what passes for normality in this house.....

I wonder if it is time
to have another look around in the Recovery Ward.

It's been, shall we say, eventful between then and now.
Some Mudcat oldtimers have not been heard from directly
for some time --
individual Mudcat members are, or are not, in touch with them.
There have been Mudcat members
who have suffered the loss of a family member.

And on the eastern side of the pond,
a special election approaches, symptomatic
of an entire government
which perhaps needs more than a Recovery Ward
to fix what is no longer working.

I experienced shortness of breath and it turns out that I had fluid in my lungs and was prescribed two diuretic pills a day. The doctor warned me, "Urine for it now!" But the dosage has been cut down to something liveable.

Under the name placque on the office door of Dr. Peter Cranes it Urological Consultant, and that's how someone introduced him to me. I told him that "I wouldn't be asking you questions if you weren't a logical consultant, would I?"

If the Recovery Ward
takes in our Australian Mudcatters,
they need relief from the brush fires (bush fires?) --
hundreds of koala casualties, I hear.

Where I live, however,
the trees are bare for other reasons,
and we need relief from the sudden cold snaps.

It was down to 24o last night, but many people have it much colder, so it's not much to complain about. Put the faucet covers in place and draw the insulating curtains. Put the jacket on the smallest dog with a thin coat. Drink lots of hot herbal tea. I don't have a fireplace (I filled it with a box made of insulation planks and it's held in place with that window insulation foam—the television stands on the heart in front to hide it). In the ward I think they've hit the eggnog hard, even though it's a bit early.

Greetings, fellow Sick-Bay Rangers!

It is still snowing in Stratford. The stuff is nearly knee-deep and we're not even half-way through November! So I'm crawling under my metaphysical blankie, where I shall stay until I have hoisted in the notion of Winter Yet Again. This could take a while.

Maybe I'll have a toddy -- you know, the kind that comes in a big mug with a huge slug of rum or whisky (your choice) in the bottom, the juice of at least half a large lemon for what ails you, a cinnamon stick, and some brown sugar to make it all utterly delicious.

A chocolate bunny would also go down a treat -- I've heard they're full of vitamins. Good idea, Mrrzy.

Come all you poor fellows who sadly do store
Your phone in the pocket your wallet is for
And down in the toilet I must chase my goal
Just give me a plunger, I'll fathom the bowl

I know, "not the comfy chair!"

There's a stray pitbull hanging around our end of the block; I suspect he was dumped. It's shy but looks pleasant enough. I think we need an animal mascot who needs a warm bed to sleep on. "Rocky" (he needs to be neutered) would like to hang out with all of you for a while.

Checking back in after a few months away. Still trying to cope with escalating hearing loss, but being very well supported by local Council initiatives: attending lipreading classes and a course for "Managing your Hearing Loss". All free, as are any aids such as flashing doorbell, TV listening aids, and more.

The bruised knee is getting better, I am walking longer distances and can return my borrowed cane (Mine mutinied someplace). It's one thing after another, but I am determined to outlast them all.

A few months ago, I thought I had seen my armless and disarming ex therapy nurse and ex-girlfriend Inter-Venus DeMilo pass my door while I was confined to my bed. She had been walking with Aaron Boyes, one of the orderlies. Recently, I thought I'd caught another glimpse of her in the hall.

Last heard from, after differences with Nurse Ratched, she had transferred across town to Our Lady Of The Inconceivable Conception. I finally ran into Aaron Boyes and he told me that who I had seen was her sister Arterielle, who was now working here in Hematology. I told him if he saw her again, to tell her to come visit me here in the ward. I haven't heard from her yet......

took several days to recover, this past week.

I wonder if the Mudcat was in a ward

This from X-Ray Tex.

It looks like some of the inhabitants of the recovery room who were mobile took to walking up and down the corridors loudly caroling for Christmas, and as they went down the halls past Radiology, managed to annoy and interrupt Nurse Ratched and X-Ray Ted, who were going hard and heavy at it in room 316 and apparently our head nurse (a position for which X-Ray Ted can gladly vouch) has vowed revenge on the Ward.

I don't know which Jones said of you were out singing, but the grace period where she was so busy that she left us alone apparently is now at an end. I hope the planned Ward New Years bash will Not be cancelled.....

Stilly River Sage, just to reassure you a bit, a dear friend had BOTH knee joints replaced simultaneously (most unusual, as they normally do one at a time)
She found it slightly painful afterwards while the 'work' was healing, but nothing too unbearable. The physio encouraged her to flex and move the knees as soon as she could, to prevent adhesions.

After she was discharged from hospital, I went to her house and stayed for a few nights to help her get to the loo etc, as she had no family for support, and I was quite surprised at how soon she was getting about.
Now she never shuts up about how great it is to be able to whizz around pain-free, and tells everyone never to fear the op.

Based on Stillys activity level wearing out a self healing organic knee
means that a synthetic knee will be challenged.

I suspect the recovery ward allows dogs to visit, which is a good thing, but one of my three dogs probably needs to be constantly petted and passed from person to person (the rest of you, in other words) to keep her distracted from any equipment to do with my recovery that she might decide to chew on. Sweet as she can be, I swear, that dog is mostly an asshole with teeth. 35 pounds of destructive teeth, and an eye for any changes in the room to zero in on (and destroy, if possible.) You wouldn't believe the stuff she has dragged out through the dog door.
