I am horrified that Max would discriminate based on the number of ocular apparati in his food. --what IS the normal number of eyes for a clam? Never can say I noticed; though I have downed bushels in my day...

now scallops always bothered me with those sweet little baby blues staring up at you....I suspect it is why you rarely get the whole shellfish in the US...

Yeah, me too...just because the unpublished (thanks, bbc) photo has me holding a clam up to the camera with my feet should NOT make it any more scandalous than a half naked Max unashamedly caressing one. And Max cooked his, then refused to eat it simply because it had more than the normal number of eyes for a clam.

I won't be able to leave till Sat. morning-I need to be at our local Sacred Harp singing Fri. for 2 reasons-to recruit people to help during our SH convention next month, and to celebrate a good friend's engagement for her first marriage-at 52. I'm sure you know true love doesn't come easy when you're our age-this needs some celebrating! Don't sing all the good songs before I get there!

Annap - I was thinking about leaving Fri and getting there around 5 or 6 - is that OK? (This probably means 7 or 8 what with the mandatory getting-lost bit I always do.) Do you think a half gallon of (full strength) margaritas is enough, or should I bring a gallon? We could just get a big bowl and a bunch of straws...

I am so excited about this weekend and I was obviously about 1600 miles from Tallahassee, in my thoughts this morning, that, when I arrived at my office and sat down, I noticed that I have on two different styles of Birkenstocks. I'm a wreck! but I always am before a gathering. This one is sooo much larger though and it's inside my house. I'm a wreck! Oh, did I say that already.

I think it's going to be so much fun though. I'll try to get home in time to hear Max tonight. I'd like to hear Bill and Lorna.

Moonchild will be coming in tomorrow around 1:30PM and we'll pick her up at Newark airport.

ONLY 4 MORE DAYS!! I'm so excited and very nervous. I hope all goes well. I just ordered a cord of beautiful oak wood for the fireplace. Honey was out in the rain trying to cover it today. We still have to load up on food and drink. If there is anything anyone would like to have available please let me know. If anyone needs directions (Yes, Kath, I got your e-mail; inaminit) please write and let me know. People keep asking what can they bring. Whatever you'd like to bring, or nothing but your music. Fine! We're gonna be tight, but it'll be fun. There will be music in every room and in the basement at Glenn's music room. I bought him new congas for Christmas. Now he can join in. Max is really good at organizing the playing and singing, but it's usually spontanious. Max, if you're planning on kayaking, bring a wetsuit. Brrr.. I have one that might fit, but Bill doesn't have one.

Again, please bring bedding if you can. Sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, sheets, teddy bears, etc.

If anyone is still not sure and doesn't want to make a commitment, that's ok. Let me know and I'll send you directions and if you come, good, if not, we'll miss you.

Sorry Anna, I can't make it. I knew that I couldn't afford the time (2.5 days driving to NJ, 3 days there, 2.5 days driving home, 1 day rest), so I thought I'd look into flying. The lowest fare is over $650.!
I sure will miss meeting those whom I met last year and those, like Moonchild (my most honored foe in the historic battle for the baubbles), whom I haven't yet met.
I will sing a song for y'all on each of the three days. Please have a tall Margarita for me, a reserve a place for me next summer.

Well. it's done. My beautiful son is at school. Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Wow, what mixed feelings are incurred here. Whew! When I left him alone, in what seemed to me, close to a prison, I cried a few tears. Will he make it? Will he be lonely? Is he scared? He's so macho at 23! As we walked through the beautiful campus, he told me he thought this would be easy. He needs to be a few pegs lower. I think this may do it. He's bright, talented and everything has always come easy to him. He will watch someone doing something most people would be scared to do, like wind-surfing, and feel it's "easy". Trouble is, for him it was. I came home from work one day and there he is, out on the water, sail in flight. Sometimes he's damn scary.

But, on the other hand, Honey and I have the house to ourselves! 'nuff said ;-)

The gathering is getting closer. January 14th - 17th. Everyone is welcome. Just let me know and I'll send the particulars. This will be the most exciting of the gatherings. So many are coming. It's going to be tight, but I think it will be much fun. For myself, I cannot wait!

Hereyago... This is a small, inexpensive motel that's way over priced in the summer, but reasonable in the winter. His prices normally are a little higher than he gave us, but he's cutting us a deal cause we expect a few rooms to be rented. The rooms are clean, have cable and a little fridge (I love those things), telephone, some have ocean or river views.

The prices he quoted me were:

$40 per night for a room with one double bed. 50 per night for a room with two double beds.

Book as soon as possible.

JudyO, I've been thinking about children at the gathering and I'm not really sure it's a good idea. This is really an adult type gathering. I love children and half of my mind is always watching them, no matter what else I'm doing. I think having children at this time would be too distracting. It would be a lot better in the summer when there is lot's for the kids to do. (river swimming, the beach, other kids in the neighborhood, etc) I hope I'm not being too mean. We'd still like to have you here though.

JudyO, I'm not sure how to react to the idea of bringing children... Are you daytripping? We're on (I mean ON) a river and you would have to keep close watch. Actually, bringing children could start a whole new facet to our gatherings. Dylan is 10 and is able to fend for himself for food and drinks. I don't see why not.

Susan of DT, Honey you said a mouthful. It's going to be an adventure, and hopefully full of wonderful happenings. I wish bbc's David was going to be here to take pictures. I'm afraid they won't be able to come. ;-(
