The common bagpipe tune "Hieland Laddie' sounds awfully similar to the song "Peat Fire Flame". The lyrics of each respective song don't talk about the same things however. Is there any relation between the two?

I'd say they were cousins within the same tune family. "Hieland Laddie" is presumably older, but probably there's no way to be sure.

"Hulla macka doo" is another one like those; so is "Greenwoodside". How many variants of an ascending minor scale in duple metre can there be?
