Subject: RE: Recording of Shule Aroon/Siuil a Run From: Jim Carroll Date: 30 Jan 19 - 11:06 AM Can't recall Len singing it but he'd certainly make a good job of it if he did You really should try to find one of the source singers singing it - Elizabeth Cronin makes a superb job of it as does Liam Clancy's mother 'Mamo' Clancy Jim Carroll |

Subject: Recording of Shule Aroon/Siuil a Run From: GUEST Date: 30 Jan 19 - 12:05 AM Hi, I'm new here, so apologies for any missteps. A few years ago I heard a beautiful recording of 'Shule Aroon'/'Siuil a Run'/'Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier' and now I can't remember who sang it or on what album. For a long time I thought it was Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers or some subgroup of them, but I can't find it in their discography. It was definitely that style, though--a male voice, I think accompanied with guitar or banjo or something, but not heavy instrumentation; very acoustic. I'm hoping someone will be able to pinpoint this recording! Thanks in advance :) J |
