Subject: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Feb 19 - 11:31 AM The February 2019 Press Room Shanty, Forebitter, and Foc's'l Ballad Session will be this Saturday, February 16th from 2:00 to 6:00 at the THE PRESS ROOM, 77 Daniel Street, Portsmouth, NH. The weather looks favorable for Saturday (rain, but well above freezing), so I doubt we'll get cancelled at the last minute this time. Our weekly Anglo-Celtic trad session has also returned to The Press Room as you may have heard, but it has migrated (of necessity) to Sunday afternoons (instead of the traditional Fridays) from 2:00 to 5:00. And I am continuing to run a weekly mixed trad session at the Continental (Chinese restaurant) north of Dover on Fridays from 4:30-8:00. Hope to see you all this Saturday! Linn |

Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 17 Feb 19 - 11:28 AM Charlie, I'm still trying to get some sort of explanation from Chris Greiner, one of the owners, as to why he decided to terminate the monthly session at The Press Room -- and why he not only didn't tell ME about it, he didn't tell yesterday's manager, either. If it was because December's session was scanty due to family and social obligations during the holidays, I guess yesterday, with over 40 participants and listeners keeping the manager and the downstairs server busy with drink and food orders may make him notice. I can't post songs, etc. until tomorrow. Maybe I'll find out more about the situation at today's weekly Press Room session. Right now I'm feeling a bit like a fly on the toilet seat. Linn |
Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Charley Noble Date: 17 Feb 19 - 01:33 PM Linn- There certainly was a crowd and a multigenerational one at that. They probably would have ordered more to eat and drink if the wait staff had been more attentive. Maybe one should consider a less competitive time than Saturday from 2-6pm. I do prefer upstairs to downstairs if there is a choice. Charlie |
Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 17 Feb 19 - 06:34 PM Charlie, it's not my decision, neither the time of the session or whether its downstairs or upstairs. Chris is one of the owners. He's the boss. He makes those decisions. And upstairs has never been an option...until he cancelled the session and failed to tell me. So the day manager put us upstairs since people were coming from a distance. I heard today that he had mentioned to my backup at the weekly session that he thought the sea music singaround was too long. Well, fine. We can change that. But he has to actually TALK to me (or email me, or SOMETHING!!!) for any tweaking to be done. Linn |
Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Feb 19 - 08:24 PM The whole deal has become a pain in the ass but it really should work for Chris if he was paying any attention. Charlie Ipcar |

Subject: RE: February Press Room [NH] Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 21 Feb 19 - 06:04 PM And I've seen it most often called "He Bang, She Bang". Jeri used to sing it on a regular basis, too -- under that name. Linn |
