Subject: RE: margaret barry lagan love From: GUEST,Kenny B Date: 17 Feb 19 - 04:42 PM A great strong voice suitably accompanied in her own unique style . Got her on my favourites with She Moved Thro the fair along with Sean Tyrell and Davy Spillane's "One Starry Night" |
Subject: RE: margaret barry lagan love From: GUEST,jim bainbridge Date: 18 Feb 19 - 04:49 AM A very special voice- style partly formed from years of street singing. I recall a very ignorant RTE radio host who did a long spiel on the lines of 'is this the worst singer in the world'? and then played this track (or it may have been 'She moved through the Fair- it was years ago) - I was appalled but now realise the depth of ignorance in the commercial music world. Tell you one thing, RTE are running a poll for the 'best folksong in Ireland'- bet it won't be this one! |

Subject: RE: margaret barry lagan love From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 18 Feb 19 - 05:38 AM Times change ... Thomas Mc Carthy, a singer from the same Traveller tradition, is this year’s Singer of the Year on TG4 (Bilingual Irish TV station) - and deservedly so. Regards |
