Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: PIT BOY (Colin Dryden) From: Daniel Kelly Date: 22 Feb 19 - 08:42 AM Transcribed from this recording. G C G The times are hard, the days are long, G C G D I wish I were a farmer’s son, G C G Out in the green fields all day long, G C D Away from the dark of the day, C G When the sun is sagging in the sky C D C D The days are long, long are the size G C G Down in the darkness where we bide, G C D Passing our lives away, And if I were a robber bold, I’d rob the rich of all their gold, And if I were caught, well I’ve been told, It’s better down botany bay And if I were a sailor, I’d sail the main, And rob the ships of france and spain, Now if we lost, perhap’s we’ed gain, For the fench might raise our pay Like pit ponies down the mine, Going blind without the shine, Though if we do, we’ll never mind Cause we’ll never want the sun no more |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy by Colin Dryden From: GUEST,Branno Date: 23 Feb 19 - 11:24 AM "When the sun is HANGING in the sky..." I'm the bloke with the tapes - quite a few of Colin's performances at the Dan O'Connell, and other places, from the early 70s. I had intended to produce a CD of this material earlier this century - life matters overtook me. I do, however, have the original recordings safe and well. I need to sort out some equipment, to make sure I get the best from old R to R tapes, recorded at 1&7/8 ips. Sandra and others will be aware of the Declan Affley CD I produced in 2003. Regards... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy by Colin Dryden From: rich-joy Date: 23 Feb 19 - 06:23 PM Well Dave, put me down for one (and I know quite a few others who will want it too!), when you do sort out your equipment. Cheers! R-J (Qld) (yep, have your Declan CD) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy by Colin Dryden From: Daniel Kelly Date: 23 Feb 19 - 08:45 PM Thanks for the correction on 'sagging' Branno it didn't sound quite right to me but I couldn't pick it. Other than the six songs that Naomi has put up on Soundcloud, do you know of any other originals by Colin that aren't in circulation? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy by Colin Dryden From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 23 Feb 19 - 09:16 PM a voice (message!) from the past are we going to get another Australian Folk Archive CD sometime soon? The link to Mark Gregory's Declan Affley page is dead. Dave, will you be at the National, if so I'll see you at Australian Songs or some other traditional event. Daniel, will you be at the National? sandra (BMC) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy (Colin Dryden) From: Daniel Kelly Date: 01 Mar 19 - 10:56 PM Hi Sandra, Third time rejection from the national this year, maybe next year! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy (Colin Dryden) From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 02 Mar 19 - 10:53 AM welcome to the club - our Family Bush Band with junior & senior members! has been rejected for the past 4 years, & the Shiny Bum Singers were hoping to celebrate their 20th anniversary this year Next year will probably be be NSW year & maybe more NSW acts will get booked - maybe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy (Colin Dryden) From: Daniel Kelly Date: 04 Mar 19 - 06:48 PM Sorry to hear the Shiny Bums won't be there Sandra, I guess it is a tough gig selecting from so many applicants, but I do feel that the event has leaned towards what is marketable and away from what is genuine but maybe a little rough. I might make an appearance at the Anti-Folk Festival. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Pit Boy (Colin Dryden) From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 05 Mar 19 - 07:52 AM some years back a group of young blond fiddlers got a gig when a group of old folkies didn't ... Anti Folk Festival looks interesting I'll include it under festivals in my next eLIST |
