I made a number of recordings myself at the Unicorn in Manchester where Harry held his last folk club. You can have a listen on the following Facebook page to the audio files I've put on there from various nights - if you need to join the page to listen then please request to join and I'll add you.
Also lots of material in PDF format from Ballad of the Northwest - a TV series from the 1970s which sadly doesn't exist in the BBC archives apart from some location film clips that found their way into the North West Film Archive.

This is a blog post of an event held on 7 June 2016 at Manchester Central Library as part of the Manchester Histories Festival.

Welcome to Manchester Central Library. Today we take you on a journey into the sounds and stories of Mr Paul Graney. Paul thought of himself as just ‘one bloke’. He was anything but.

I think Paul Graney's recordings are in the archives at Manchester Central Reference Library.

Paul Grainey was the recordist (Leslie was of course Lesley - Harry's wife)
I seem to remember hearing that Paul's recordings were listed and archived at Cecil Sharp House

Well done from me too - happy days
I seem to remember a feller with a tape recorder who recorded many of Harry's performances in those days - Leslie ????? (maybe not)
I remember him promising Terry Whelan some of his recordings - Terry was somewhat bemused at what he sent
Knowing his taste for Hammer Films, the recordist sent him a recording of a howling pack of wolves

My favourite memory of Harry was when he was booked at Manchester Uni (the Toastrack)
He had a tendency to rise in pitch in longer songs and this night he launched into a blasted out 'Flying Cloud'. not noticing the two hippies sitting at the back of the stage lighting up a splif
As Harry gradually rose in pitch, they managed to set the back curtains on fire, so he finished his song in a 'blaze of glory' literally
Jim

Yes, thanks for alerting us to this Mark. You have flown the flag for Harry and his legacy over many years and Mike too is to be congratulated for this important reissue.
Harry Boardman was part of my formative interest in 'our' music and being fairly local to Southport, we saw a lot of him back in the day.

In 1978, the Lancashire performer and researcher Harry Boardman issued an LP on an independant label AK Records after having released several LPs on the Topic label. (New Voices, Deep Lancashire, Oldham Edge, Transpennine, A Lancashire Mon). The Topic releases have been available as digital downloads for a while now, it has not been the case with Golden Stream which is considered to be Harry's finest outing on record.

Mike Billington who owns the Epona record label got in touch with me to see if it would be possible to release Golden Stream on his label. We got the blessing of Harry's widow Lesley and their two sons and also the original recording engineer Keith Twort who owns the master tape. Keith has provided us with a digital transfer of the tape and with the addition of a couple of bonus tracks from a recording I made of Harry at a gig in 1983, we are about a month away from having the CD version of Golden Stream ready for issue.
I will post again when it is ready for purchase from the Epona Records website.
Epona Records

Cheers
Mark
