What does it say about our world when a sewer rat is so fat it gets stuck in a manhole cover?
But it's photo was so nakedly plaintive that I had to link to it.
Does it have anything to say about the world today?

It means I get a sponsored ad in this thread for the Omer Klein Trio, who I presume are Turkish-German. Do they have any songs relating to obese rats?

by the way,
that one photograph IS indeed something else.
Can you imagine a caption for it?
What would you put in the cartoon voice balloon
over the rat's head?

... the other thing you can do is look at the comments section
on the YouTube version of the story.

Great link Keboroxu. Both the video and the comments, many of which are perceptive as well as humorous.
As to the German source, it remains me slightly of a conversation I had at lunch with some English speaking Germans. We were talking of ethnic humor (sorry, there, 'humour') in this case the humour being at the expense of another ethnicity. I mentioned that in America we told 'Polish' jokes.
The German deadpanned to me (imagine a thick Deutsche accent): "Ve do not find the Poles to be very humourous!"

"Touche" I thought. However it was meant.

I continue to learn German at a snail's pace.

"Prall" is a new word for me.
English equivalents are
"bulging," "chubby," "overstuffed" ...

I knew the word "dicke" for "thick"/"fat"
but this one is new to me.

'Portly' would be a kind way of putting it - but it does seem to suggest a male, so we don't know if it fits this particular rat.

Oh, could've been a pregnant rat. The news didn't seem to consider it. Too close to the concept of 'anchor babies'?

Anyhow, the rat is actually a clever and resourceful and tough and enduring beast. They make good pets, although I would choose a known domesticated variety over feral. They have been known to be affectionate and many have achieved employment in professional fields.

Turns out that brains we humans regard as small can be quite perceptive and intelligent. After all, who was it who indicated to sailors it was time to leave the ship?

Since it's a German rat,
there ought to be some silly caption
about the Pied Piper ... I mean,
Der Rattenfänger.
