His last years were a grim testimonial to the effects of capitalist health care:

Touring to stay alive

John Peel used one of his tunes on his show and I think the Surfaris Wipeout, used to effect in the Return to the Forbidden Planet musical was based on one of his tunes.

My interest in Surf Music was renewed after hearing Junior Brown's "Surf Medley" and it led me back to Dick Dale. I loved that music when I was a kid and most of what you heard of it on the radio was The Ventures and The Surfaris, I don't think Dale made as big a commercial splash back then but listening to him now he really was the KOTSG.

Surf is one of the top 3 biggest influences on my guitar sound...

I spent an aftenoon listening to Dick Dale only a few weeks ago...

I don't think Dick had much influence on UK guitar players.

Tunesmith - Maybe not so much before the 1990s,
he probably didn't stand out too much from the rest of the guitar instrumental and surf genre
ruled over by the Shadows and Ventures...???

But then a certain influential Film Director brought him to wider attention over here...

Also a lot of 'younger' bands have absorbed influences from surf and spaghetti western music...

Yes, got to a decent age and had a revival, thanks to Quentin Tarrantino. Bernie Torme (Ozzy Osbourne, Gillan and others) died as well. Metal players up there will welcome him with open arms.
