We were shown the DVD last weekend at the NZ Morris tour - Andy has the DVD. I really enjoyed it but we were late starting so some people left before it finished. Malcolm is one of the people interviewed in the film.

From discussion I had with the film maker after the showing in Thirsk he is very keen to take up any practical offers of screening - he has approached a number of cinemas and organisations but I am sure any other suggestions would be welcome to him

I was seriously considering cancelling my B&B booking considering the way the festival has been declining but as I wasted my London ticet for the film sitting in A&E I might give it the benefit of one more year after all.

It would be nice if they made the film available for digital rental. I'd like to see it here in SW Florida and I ain't getting any younger.   There's not much chance of it being shown in a theater in these parts where anything even slightly esoteric never seems to arrive though I suppose I could lobby the public library for a screening.

To this end the producers have compiled a list of over 100 regional UK cinemas, arts centres and institutions to which they intend to make the film available. The list is hand-picked to include screens accessible from all regions of the UK, including local cinemas near the places where Butterworth lived, worked, had his music performed and collected folk songs. After all they are screening "Fishermens Friends" this year.

Or even Sidmouth. They put on "the Way of the Morris" and that was very well received.

Seeing the film reminded me of a very spooky incident just after we moved to York. I was looking for my new doctor's surgery when I came across a Blue Plaque marking the location of Butterworth's York home when he was a child. I hadn't known that he had lived here. The spooky bit was when I realised the date and time when I was standing there looking at it. It was 11am on 11 November!

Jack - they are hoping to bring it to Scotland - just really needs a venue who will take a chance on it. There was a decent turnout at Thirsk though chatting to the people who run the place afterwards it looked marginal whether it had worked out for them. It is a magnificent film so I hope you do get to see it. The sound at Thirsk for such a small community run theatre was tremendous and it was blissful having Banks of Green Willow and his other orchestral works wash over us

I can't recall if this has been mentioned previously but an independent film maker has made a quite wonderful film about the life of George Butterworth. It had its first northern screening in Thirsk yesterday and I was lucky enough to be able to get to see it. Incredibly moving - I adore his orchestral music and in the context of the film it was even more engaging. There was a lot of detail about his folk song collecting and morris dancing activities. The website has screening details - I do urge you to try to get to see it!
