Guys

I was at a session a few weeks back and was very impressed with one of the tunes. I recorded it here
https://soundcloud.com/user-269070986/ram-session-fragment-21-03-19
Does anyone know what it's called or who wrote it?

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

I don't recognise the tune but someone else might. My first thought was it sounds a little bit Swedish or something similar.

Helen

Sounds more like a patchwork of bits rather than a single tune. Can you a get a clearer recording from the same player?

Steve, it might help if you can give us some more information.

What sort of music session was it? Irish, other.
Do you know the musician(s) playing the tune? Can you ask one of them for more info on the tune?
Where was the session? This might sound like a weird question but sometimes there is a regional difference and some tunes are played more often in some areas than others.
Any other info you can give us might help, and apart from anything else, it keeps the thread open a bit longer to allow other people to drop in and someone may be able to shed some light on the tune.

Apologies, Steve. I just read the info you posted on the Cloud page, so one of my questions was already answered:

"Possibly original tune fragment collected from the session at The Ram, Woodchester, Stroud, UK 21 March 2019.
Composer unknown"

Try asking there on Facebook, specifically about the session on March 21, 2019. They have a February playlist published on that page. Your answer may be on that list if by chance they repeated it. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions :-) I've written to the session via the Facebook page and we'll see what response we get :-)

Definitely not British trad. An odd rhythm. Similar to tunes I've heard played on hurdy-gurdies. A total guess but possibly Breton or Western European, Spain, Portugal, dance tune most likely.
