This morning I was reading on Wikipedia about the Springfields and their early folk influences. One of their albums has the intriguing title Kinda Folksy which I guess by now would be a very expensive rare record (are there any links to be able to listen to tracks from it?). Also, did they ever work in the folk club circuit, and which clubs are know to have had them as guests?

I sat on the bog listening to a hanful of Springfields tracks on amazon prime basic service...
Some I remembered from childhood, but instantly forgettable again..

If I remember right, the few tracks from the earlier band Dusty was in sounded dire...

Youtube would probably have a few tracks...??

According to wiki Dusty was in a girl band before, and I know Tom wrote the Seekers early Uk hits.

Did they not get a hit single out of their recording of
"Silver Threads and Golden Needles
(cannot mend this heart of mine)" ?

Because I recall hearing it broadcast over the radio,
and , to go Regency Romance for a moment,
I found it
"unobjectionable."

I mean , it fit right in … nothing dire about it. At the time anyhow.

Personnel: Dusty Springfield, Tom Springfield, Mike Hurst.

Oh Gaad the photographs.
Those outfits make her look older than she really was …
in a couple of places
her hair is dyed RED.

And the two young men with
guitars and BONGO DRUMS.

Tom Springfield was quite a talent. I remember he wrote some theme music for a serialisation of George Moore's novel Esther Walters.

Was the Springfield's "ISLAND OF DREAMS" a hit record, I seem to remember it in the charts and, I think that the SEEKERS did a cover version (better imo) ??

The Springfieds had a couple of hits back in the 60s. "Island of Dreams" and "Say I Won't Be There". The tune of the latter being "Au Clair De Lune". In later years, Tom Springfield used the Russian folk tune Stenka Rasin for his composition "The Carnival Is Over" which was a big hit for The Seekers.

Fwiw, I think Dusty was at her best (and by her own admission, happiest) singing Motown and songs of that ilk. That said, she was pure quality no matter what she sang.
