Ralph McTell used to be a regular visitor to The West London Irish Music session in Fulham
I one heard him say he'd made more money out of 'Streets of London' that the homeless enevr did

Part of the "Soul Music" series. Good show, but not as good as many of the others in this great series. If you aren't familiar, check out the website & download great progs, such as , "First Time Ever etc." "Skye Boat Song" Wichita Lineman" & loads more.

Which is probably why I've never listened to it before. If there hadn't a picture of Ralph in Radio Times I would have ignored it.

It was all connected. Like the muscles in yer body you use to play guitar! Yer backbone that stops you flopping, yer calf muscles that tap the rhythm. It was connected, and needed what was there to flesh out what would have been a very narrow subject. Which, let us not get too blinkered was "Streets of London by Ralph McTell". The person was in the title. What he did, interwoven by the song, was in context.

Call me a butterfly mind but the genesis in the streets of Paris was my kind of paradox. The song talking to a heroin addict. Ralph's proximity and participation in the Derek Bentley case all hung together, and new to me. A gripping yarn sums it up. Well executed (pun not intended).

It is radio. Chords and finger positions don't mean much - that is for TV. The back story is the domain of radio.

Good series. Today I heard about 'Wind of Change' which song I've never heard.
Mostly about a guy getting out of East Germany as was.
