Here's mine:

England, Wales & Northwestern Europe 39%, Ireland and Scotland 33%,
Baltic States 15%, Eastern Europe and Russia 10%, Sweden 3%

I understand the British connections: England, Wales & Ireland especially, and Sweden would be those pesky Norsemen way back when poking their noses(?) in uninvited, but what I don't understand is the Baltic States and Eastern Europe and Russia. I am getting no matches for those areas at all.

But, I have come to the conclusion that it is only countries with people with disposable incomes who can afford luxuries like DNA tests (other than those tests imposed by police on non-productive members of society) where my DNA matches will show up. The Baltic States, Eastern Europe and Russia probably have more pressing life priorities than looking up their family trees online.

PFR... genetic influence on personality is an interesting topic, but as you'd imagine, a 'delicate' one. Right now, very few experts would be willing to climb out on that limb.
What you have experienced as a result of others being aware of your history could be more important.

But such tests can't answer this, and the question itself might be pure nonsense
based on bad science...

I occasionally refer to this wiki entry,
because it is a question that would have mattered significantly in Europe in the 1930s and 40s...

It would potentially have meant life or death...

This subject has preoccupied me since my late teens,
and to an extent influence my choice of studying a Humanities degree nearly 40 years ago...

I think Ancestry gets a lot of their info from the LDS site, and they are not very careful about double-checking. My G-grandfather was spelled wrong and it wasn't till I found other sites that had it right that I was able to follow links properly. Geni.com is much more helpful.

i show up as 62% irish and scottish and rest english and northwest europe, which means dutch. I have huge dutch impact on my dna with huge chunks of dna..i am on paper 50% irish but except for some second and third cousins, I have almost no good irish matches..but those dutch ones..and I am probably no more than about 6% dutch, are both multiple and large chunks of dna. i do not get it other than to think dutch are very strong in their dna...it is way out of proportion with my actual dutch percentage.

Oh, a few of mine were rich way back... a few Barons, Lords and Dukes in England... but I seem to be descended from 3rd daughters and unlucky 2nd & 3d sons of the heads of the family. By the time they had sorted themselves out in the colonies, the ones who didn't inherit the best loot headed to Western Pennsylvania and became farmers & such. They kept good records, though, and I have 3 governors of the colonies in my list... Simon Bradstreet, Thomas Dudley and Thomas Prence IV. I guess politics wasn't particularly lucrative in the 1600s.

I have no reason to believe that a DNA analysis would tell me anything more than I know already — I’m a mutt with ancestors from all over northwest Europe.

And none of them was rich.

Don't need DNA... I found enough links to show I'm 90+% English with a bit of Dutch, Welsh and French...but the French is WAY back.

(well, I guess DNA would show some really ancient aspects)

Nah then, Dave, it was a superb match played in a great spirit. Over the ninety, Liverpool definitely edged it, and were beaten only via the lottery of a penalty shootout. Everybody's happy. Given Liverpool's second-half performance I'd say that we Liverpool supporters are the tad happier of the two. Should be a great season. Can't see Mike or Raggytash being happy by next May...

Did I tell you that I watched Liverpool winning the Champions League, against another English team, the match played in Madrid, on a Sicilian hotel room telly with rabid Italian commentary? I bloody know how to live, innit! The Nero d'Avola there wasn't half bad either...

As for DNA, I've met a few raunchy women in me time who wouldn't have minded having a bit of Neanderthal Man in 'em...

I'll get me coat... :-(

Mine, just back from ancestry.com

England, Wales and NW Europe 39%
Comprising West Midlands and North Wales

Eastern Europe and Russia 30%

Baltic States 19%

Ireland and Scotland 10%

European Jewish 1%

Central and northern Asia 1%

So, all in all, pretty evenly split between eastern and western Europe. Which is no big surprise. What was interesting was that there was so much from the Baltic states and so much from the Celtic nations. No wonder my tastes are so eclectic :-)

Anyone else want to share theirs?
