Be kind to your web-footed friends,
For a duck may be somebody's mother:
Be kind to your friends in the swamp.
Where it's very very wet and very damp

Be kind to the lions in the zoo
For a [something] may be jumping on [can't remember the rest of this verse]

You may think that this is the end
Well it is!
(Long pause)
But it could go on forever [and I don't remember the rest of this verse either]

I learned this:

Alice, with legs like toothpicks
And a neck like a giraffe
Alice, went to the bathroom
Upstairs to take a bath
Alice, got in the bathtub
Alice, pulled out the plug
Oh my goodness, oh my soul, there goes Alice, down the hole
Alice? Alice! [Glug, glug, glug.]

And that was all. Nothing to do with the duck may be somebody's mother.

The version we sang at camp was:

Alice, with legs like toothpicks (snap)
And a neck like a giraffe (raffe, raffe, raffe, raffe)
Alice, where are you going? (Wonderland)
Upstairs to take a bath (bath, bath, bath, bath)
Alice, stepped in the bathtub (splash)
Alice, pulled out the plug (oh no!)
Oh my goodness, oh my soul, there goes Alice, down the hole
To the sewer, the sewer, the sewer, which is only three blocks away (in subsequent verses, it would be two blocks away, then one block away) from Jones Junior High

Three cheers for Jones Junior High
It's the best Junior High in Toledo
Their colors are purple and white
The purple stands for freedom and the white stands for fight, fight!

~Crazy how many versions of this there are!

In the version I heard, the duck 'may be somebody's uncle.
I doubt if I would have remembered the song at all if the duck was a mother, which is rather too commonplace.

I learned the song with the name Annabelle and not the name Alice. This is the way that I learned it:

Annabelle, where are you going?
Upstairs to take a bath,
Annabelle, your legs are like two toothpicks
Annabelle, you neck is like a girrafe
Annabelle, pull out the stopper
Annabelle, please drain the bath
OH MY GOODNESS, OH MY SOAL, THERE GOES ANNABELL DOWN THAT HOLE!
ANNABELLE, ANNABELLE, glug.

bumpay thin as a toothpick, with a head just like a tack
bumpay fell in the water, and floated to near the drain
oh my goodness oh my oh! bumpey just went down that hole!

i searched google quite a bit, but can only find the allice one. anyone know what I'm talking about?

Be kind to your fine feathered friends
For a duck maybe somebody's mother
she lives where its dark with no lamps
it is cold and so damp
      ------------OR-------------
be kind to the camel in the zoo
for he may be hiding your sister
and then if he spits on you
You'll say "That wasn'y very nice mister"

You may think that this is the end,
But to tell you the truth im a liar
I will sing it again
And this time maybe even higher

When I was a kid, this is how my mom sang it to me, and I loved it!

Here's the definitive version:

Be kind to your web-footed friends
For a duck may be somebody's mother
Be kind to your friends in the swamp
Where the water is very damp (rhymes with swamp)

Be kind to the camel in the zoo
For his hump may be hiding your brother
Be kind to the tiger and the monk
And we will let you smell our favorite: The skunk!

Be kind to the monster mash, the monster mash!
Won't you be so kind to the purple people eater, purple people eater
Won't you be so kind to all the people who come here from outer spaces
Won't you be so kind to all your shoesies and to all your shoesies' laces
Won't you be so kind when teacher thanks you
Won't you be so kind when Daddy spanks you
Won't you be so kind, so kind, so kind, so kind, so kind, so kind, so kind… SO KIND!

*On the 3rd iteration, you can either end with "SO KIND!" or you can sing the first verse one last time (the one ending with "Where the water is very damp" and then sing:

You may think that this is the end
Well, it is! (Abrupt ending)

Upstairs to take a bath.
Fannie Mae's legs are like toothpicks,
Her neck like a giraffe.
Fannie Mae stepped in the bathtub.
Fannie Mae pulled out the plug.
Oh my goodness, Oh my soul!

In the UK, back in 1985, we used to sing at Brownies (girl scout)camp:

be kind2 ur webbed footed friends
4a duck may be somebodys mother
all alone in the swamp
where its always cold and damp
u may think that this is the end
but to tell u the truth im a liar
we sing this thru once again
but this time lets sing a little higher.

(repeat until bored or insane - until the last verse where it says
you may think that this is the end
And in this case you're right.)

Alice where are you going?
Upstairs to take a bath.
Alice with legs like toothpicks,
and a neck like a giraffe.

Alice fell in the bathtub,
pulled out the plug and said
"Oh My Goodness",
"Oh My Soul",

There goes Alice down the hole!!

Alice where are you going *glup, glup glup*

slipped on a bar of soap

Jones Jr High! I know that song as well, but slightly different as described above. Has anyone heard it this way:

Three cheers for the Jones Jr. High
It's the best Jr. High in Toledo
It's colors are Red White and Blue,
And it's motto is "I love you"

Two cheers for the Smith Jr. High
It's the second best Jr. High in Toledo
It's colors are Red Blue and White,
And it's motto is "Fight Fight Fight"

One cheer for the Brown Jr. High
It's the worst best Jr. High in Toledo
It's colors are Brown Brown and Brown,
It's the lousiest school in town.

At least, that's the way it was always sung to me...

Now the sewer
runs Three Blocks
North-East
of Jones Junior High...

Three cheers for Jones Junior High!
It's the best Junior High in Toledo!
Its colors are purple and white!
Purple stands for loyalty and white stands for
Fight! Fight! Fight!

Hello,

I was searching for lyrics and found myself here...

What I was looking for was the Alice, where are you going, lyrics.

While I am here, let me tell you how I remember learning the last part... (and, I never learned it as part of a Jones Jr. High song, although I did go to a Jones Jr. High in Hartford, CT)

Alice fell in the bathtub,
Alice forgot the plug,
Oh, my goodness, Oh, my soul,
there goes Alice down the hole,
Glub, Glub, Glub

Peter, if you're going to make fun of me, do it for mistyping "Its". I hang my head, I is covered with rue.

I didn't go to Jones Junior High. If memory serves, this song is from a summer camp my brother and sister went to and was in honor of a counselor who went to J. J. H. S. The picture of the suicidal band is appealing, though.

It's in the DT as "Be Kind to Your Web-Footed Friends". In my younger days we used to sing,

"...Where the weather is cold and damp.
Well you may think that this is the end,
And it is."

Not to digress or anything, but there was another parody of "The Stars and Stripes Forever" that ended equally abruptly:

Three cheers for Jones Junior High!
It's the best junior high in Toledo.
It's colors are purple and white--
(Spoken) Purple is for loyalty and white is for the fight fight fight!
For Jones Junior High I would die, bang!

The bang was accompanied by a shooting-yourself-in-the-head gesture. This was actually the end of a long, complicated narrative song that started

Alice, where are you going?
--Upstairs to take a bath.
Alice with legs like toothpicks
And a neck like a giraffe.

Fortunately, I forget the rest.

Hi, I'm looking for the rest of the lyrics to an old WWII song. What I remember is:

Be kind to your fine feathered friends, For that duck may be somebody's mother. Be kind to your friends in the swamp, Where the weather is cold and damp.

I think there was something else about an alligator, also. Thanks.
