If coming to the 2019 Getaway, please bring something to donate to the silent auction, and also bring cash or a checkbook so that you can bid on some desired or interesting object, CD or book in the auction.

The auction is a significant source of funds for the Getaway Scholarship fund. Many folks have had to avail themselves of scholarships in order to attend, me included, over the years. The Getaway would have been much poorer in fellowship and shared music if some of those folks had not been able to attend.

I miss it. I don't drive huge distances these days (although it's not that I couldn't, and I'm not sure I could get bedding onto a train.
But I really miss the Getaway, and all the folks I've met there.
(I'm also planning to visit my cousin in NYS in Oct, but I can't remember when THAT is.)

You will be flying over MD a week before, and can't just make a layover for the week before going home? Sounds like a real savings- two destinations with one trip.

Oh, I wish I could go, but I'm getting back from Scotland a week before the Getaway, and I'm just not sure I have the stamina to make another trip. Hope I can go next year.

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington's annual Getaway weekend is getting close! This year's weekend of singing and picking and workshops and jam sessions and schmoozing will be held Friday evening October 4 through Monday morning October 7, at the West River Conference Center on an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay. If you've been to the Getaway before, you know what a good time it is. If you've never been, now is the time! You'll love it! The site is beautiful, the people are welcoming, and the music is wonderful.

Come for the whole weekend, or part of the weekend, or just for a day -- you'll love it, and we'd love to see you!
