It's easier to get a business loan for a gas station than a restaurant (at least in this part of Texas) so there are a lot of gas stations with quite decent small restaurants inside. It has surprised a few guests when we run by the corner Citgo gas station for gyros.

In my thinking on one end of the grand pendulum of human events and responses, is the compounding of negative magical thinking mistakes like the Children's Crusade or the 3rd Reich, and on the other end are the compounded enlightenment extremes of Realitivity and super inventions and discoveries.

We may be at the extreme right swing of the pendulum or near to it.
Like when we are on a swing this is the time to gain a little boost to the swing down and to the left. I don't know if sticking our legs out or leaning back is what gives us added momentum. Its probably both but we are going to be OK.

Everyone is overdosed with rule by lies and TV hypnosis to the point of rejection. The old tricks are suspect and the new meme begins.
In reality there are many pendulums at different degrees all swinging simultaneously but I think people visualize in 2 dimensions most easily.

I hope we identify the coming time as a new age instead of a post appocolyptic anything. My highly ignored, arrogant sounding, journal of thought droppings work is done. All thats left is repitition or forever unfinished attempts.

The restaurant in question is called Cafe Tuscano and it's one of the best in Idaho (really!). Their food is outstanding and the   tiramisu (made there)is literally national-award-winning. Still, taking guests to the Chevron station for a dinner of grilled tri-tip and veggies with an excellent wine/beer selection (and harder stuff) and very tasty desserts isn't in the usual pervue of folks from, say, DC or Chicago.

There's a Thai restaurant in Pensacola that shares a building with a car wash. You can enjoy a nice dish of red curry while watching cars go through the wash tunnel.

The cars being washed provide an endless source of distraction, which makes the restaurant a good place to take a dinner companion you plan on ignoring.

Yesterday I put the flower boxes out on the porch. Then I heard it, way up in the air: a duckdog barking away, and never was barking so sad, and never was barking so gay.

I never ate food from an automat. They never really caught on in the South. Probably because cooked grits have a shelf-life of about ten minutes before they turn into a congealed gelatinous mass even a dog won't eat.

Nonsense! I have a lovely recipe for grits souffle (as made at the King's Arms Tavern in Williamsburg, VA). We first had them there:

Waiter: Would you like to try our grits souffle?
THWAP, g.s. on the plate.

It really is very good. And grits with shrimp as made in Charleston, SC -- delicious.

Gator Tail a la Pensacola is pretty terrible, since the gator ain't dead.

Eating live animals is unique. In the case of a live prawn you can feel it resign its life in your mouth, if you dont hurry it will seemingly come back alive with its last ounce of hope.

The Art of the Deal (ammended by Michael Cohen

1       Once you have their money... you never give it back.
2       The best deal is the one that brings the most profit.
2       Money is everything.
3       Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to.
5       Always exaggerate your estimates.
6       Never allow family to stand in the way of opportunity.
7       Keep your ears open.
8       Small print leads to large risk.
9       Opportunity plus instinct equals profit.
10       Greed is eternal.
14       The quickest way to find profits is to let them find you.
15       Dead men close no deals
16       A deal is a deal... until a better one comes along.
17       A contract is a contract is a contract.
18       A Deal without profit is no deal at all.
19       Satisfaction is not guaranteed.
20       He who dives under the table today lives to profit tomorrow.
21       Never place friendship above profit.
22       A wise man can hear profit in the wind.
23       Nothing is more important than your health.
27       There's nothing more dangerous than an honest businessman.
29       What's in it for me?
31       Never make fun of a loser's mother. Insult something he cares about instead.
33       It never hurts to suck up to the boss.
34       War is good for business..
35       Peace is good for business.
37       The early investor reaps the most interest.
39       Don't tell customers more than they need to know.
40       She can touch your dick but never your $.
41       Profit is its own reward.
43       Feed your greed, but not enough to choke it.
44       Never confuse wisdom with luck.
45       Expand or die
47       Don't trust a man wearing a better suit than your own.
48       The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife.
52       Never ask when you can take
53       Never trust anybody taller than you.
54       Rate divided by time equals profit.
55       Take joy from profit, and profit from joy.
57       Good customers are as rare as bearer bond—treasure
58       There is no substitute for success.
59       Free advice is seldom cheap.
60       Keep your lies consistent or for 2 weeks or not..
62       The riskier the road, the greater the profit.
63       Work is the best therapy-at least for your employees.
65       Win or lose, there's always Huyperian beetle snuff.
66       Someone's always got bigger debts.
68       Risk doesn't always equal reward.
69       Trumps are not responsible for the stupidity of other races.
74       Knowledge equals profit.
75       Home is where the resort is.
76       Every once in a while, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies.
77       If you break it, I'll charge you for it!
82       The flimsier the product, the higher the price.
85       Never let the competition know what you're thinking.
87       Learn the customer's weaknesses, so that you can better take advantage of him
88       It ain't over 'til its over'
88       Vengeance will cost you everything.
89       Ask not what your profits can do for you, but what you can do for your profits.
89       [It is] better to lose some profit and live than lose all profit and die.
92       There are many paths to profit.
94       Females and finances don't mix.
95       Expand or die.
97       Enough... is never enough.
98       Every man has his price
98       If you can't take it with you, don't go.
99       Trust is the biggest liability of all.
100       When it's good for business, tell the truth.
101       Profit trumps emotion.       The Long Mirage
102       Nature decays, but latinum lasts forever.
103       Sleep can interfere with opportunity
104       Faith moves mountains... of inventory.
106       There is no honor in peverts
108       Hope doesn't keep the lights on.
108       A woman wearing clothes is like a man without any profits.
109       Dignity and an empty sack is worth the sack.
110       Exploitation begins at home.
111       Treat people in your debt like family... exploit them.
112       Never have sex with the wife's sister.
113       Always have sex with the boss.
117       You can't free a fish from water
121       Everything is for sale, even friendship.
123       Even a blind man can recognize the glow of gold
125       You can't make a deal if you're dead.
135       Listen to secrets, but never repeat them.
139       Wives serve, brothers inherit.
141       Only fools pay retail.
144       There's nothing wrong with charity... as long as it winds up in your pocket.
147       People love the bartender.
151       Even when you're a customer, sell yourself.
153       Sell the sizzle, not the steak
162       Even in the worst of times someone turns a profit
168       Whisper your way to success.
177       Know your enemies... but do business with them always.
181       Not even dishonesty can tarnish the shine of profit.
182       When life hands you grease, make detergent
184       A Trump waits to bid until his opponents have exhausted themselves.
188       Not even dishonesty can tarnish the shine of profit.
189       Let others keep their reputation. You keep their money.
190       Hear all, trust nothing.
192       Never cheat an Arab unless you're sure you can get away with it.
193       Trouble comes in threes.
193       It's never too late to fire the staff.
194       It's always good business to know about new customers
199       Location, location, location.
200       A Trump chooses no side but his own
202       Suckers are succulent, but sometimes they bite back
208       Sometimes, the only thing more dangerous than a ? is an answer.
211       Employees are the rungs on the ladder of success. Don't hesitate to step on them.
212       A good lie is easier to believe than the truth.
214       Never begin a (business) negotiation on an empty stomach.
216       Never gamble with a telepath.
217       Always know what you're buying.
218       Sometimes what you get free costs entirely too much.
219       Possession is eleven-tenths of the law!
223       Beware the man who doesn't take time for blackmail
227       If that's what's written, then that's what's written.
229       Gold lasts longer than lust.
235       Duck; death is head high
236       You can buy fate with enough hate
239       Never be afraid to label a product Trump.
240       Time, like platinum, is a highly limited commodity.
242       More is good... all is better
243       Always leave yourself an out.
248       The definition of insanity is trying the same failed scheme & expecting different results
255       A wife is luxury... a smart accountant a neccessity.
257       When the messenger comes to appropriate your profits, kill the messenger
261       A wealthy man can afford anything except a conscience
263       Never allow doubt to tarnish your lust for gold
266       When in doubt, lie.
267       If you believe it, they believe it.
272       Always inspect the merchandise before making a deal.
280       If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
284       Deep down, everyone's bought.
285       No good deed ever goes unpunished
287       Always get somebody else to do the lifting
288       Never get into anything that you can't get out of
289       A man is only worth the sum of his possessions.
290       An angry man is an enemy, and a satisfied man is an ally.
291       The less employees know about the cash flow, the smaller the share they can demand.
292       Betrayal can be fired - the same as loyalty
293       The more time they take deciding, the more money they will spend.
294       A bargain usually isn't
431       When the shooting starts, let the mercenaries handle it!

Day-old grits and that Eye-talian polenta stuff are pretty much one and the same. Except that polenta's expensive and day-old grits are damned near free.

I'm not a fan of grits, though I make cornbread from cornmeal a couple of times a year. I use most cornmeal in the garden. Corn gluten meal can impede weed growth if you put it out in the winter before they sprout, or sprinkle it on the bare soil you've just weeded before putting in bedding plants. That bright yellow looks pretty alarming, though, so put mulch over the top of it.

"impedes weed growth" ? Who needs poisons like Round UP?

Grits (corn meal gluten) and weed control sounds like an organic dream

To me grits as a food is right up there with corn silk spaggetti..

Grits, well prepared (most aren't), are pretty good. Polenta is just a fancy name for corn meal mush solid enough to fry. Now, for good eating try panhaus (a/k/a scrapple, but with a twist).

My orthopedic guy says my knee is looking good, three months out from the surgery. I'm glad I did it, but it is one rough surgery to get over. In lieu of physical therapy, I'm mowing the lawn and walking dogs. His parting shot was "if you want to mow some more, I'll give you my address." I happen to know he has two Labrador retrievers, so if his lawn is like mine, there are some hazards out there. I think I'll pass. My routine is to scoop every day or two and dump it into the compost, then I've started bagging at least some of the grass when I mow so I can toss it on top of the droppings. That's the best poop deodorizer around.

In a year you will have absolute maximum bone growth gripping the new implant so skydiving should be OK. What stimulates bone growth mechanicly is simple 'impact' like jumping/stomping from one stair down to the floor many times. Its the shock, not the load.

Lateral/horizontal shock - not good. Do not high dive above 10 meters

Your brain devotes more brain area (sensory and motor) to a thumb than all the rest of your fingers. Thats why thumbscrews are such an effective torture. You can even render a person unconscious with a clever blow to the thumb.

I fell into a tiny crack below the line.
All I have is the conscience of the folk singer
I can not play and sing at the same time.
I only have the talent to make a string sing or
combine songs in a strange and clever way
The envy I feel for performers is what remains

I wonder if it was a 107 fever or skull fracture.
I'd love to be able to sing out, I wish I could
I tried for 50 years but never found that feature.
In this sea of outrage I say whats misunderstood
as fake prestigue or ethics of an age gone by
What defines this age is instead the great lie.

All I have is science with a conscience of folksingers
It may be of some value or a total waste of time
Its a weird combination that probably won't injure
At any rate in my thinking its no great crime.
I've done all the talking about ability and disability
We all have unique mixtures. What about you until lately?

I just added five more books on American and other pandemics, past and future, to the collection. Now I must read them and others to prepare for a delivering a lecture on the subject in October. Two things in common, from 1793 to the present: business folks think epidemics/pandemics are bad for business and prefer doctors didn't mention them, and all of these diseases are products of The Lower Classes (who live dissolute lives of intemperance). They are also punishments by God for said lives (see above) and it'll only get worse if we don't REPENT!.

I'm sorry, but I cannot repent. I have never pented in the first place.

At least, that is, to the best of my knowledge. Since I don't actually know what penting is, I suppose it's possible I have pented at some time in the past without being aware of doing so. But if that's the case, if penting is so unremarkable that one can do it without knowledge of doing so, then why should I go through the trouble of doing it again?

Speaking of cleaning guns and checking ammo, the battery to the combination keypad on my gun safe died. There's an emergency access key around here somewhere, but I'm not sure where. I hope the Zombie Apocalypse can wait until after I find it.

I do have a bunch of 12 Gauge shells that aren't in the gun safe. I suppose that, if push comes to shove, I can make Zombie-killing bombs out of them.

How are you guys doing for face masks? I suspect Mike is set up with a lifetime supply, what with a house full of quilt stash. How about Bruce? Don? Who else? Keb? Anyone with a particularly large face and/or a beard, let me know. I've made a few for that demographic. :)

Well, Stilly, thanks for your generosity, industry, and big heart.
I don't have a beard.
And at the mental health clinic where I admitted myself this year,
we have fellow patients
waiting out the shelter-in-place pandemic order
by making masks as though somebody's life depended on it.
At this point
I suspect we have more masks than patients ...

but thanks again for asking.

Hi, Mom!

This is very strange....

Since I first bought an optical mouse for my laptop some years back, I've been using a piece of white card stock paper as a "mouse pad" instead of mousing on the bare tabletop. Card stock has enough "tooth" that the mouse moves around smoothly and comfortably. A sheet lasts a month or so before it gets dirty and the constant movement of the mouse burnishes the tooth down to where the paper's slick.

I finally got down to my last piece of the card stock I was using so I bought some more today. And guess what? It doesn't work! The shade of white seems to be too "bright" for the mouse's optical sensor. Move the mouse around on it and the cursor stays in one place. Put the old sheet back down, the mouse works fine. Hold the new sheet and the old sheet up for comparison and I can only see the least bit of difference. But that slight difference is enough to make the mouse inoperable. Go figure....

If you'd like a real mouse pad let me know. The mouse is still attached to it, so you know it's genuine.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll just get some pastel card stock. The optical mouse actually works fine on the bare tabletop, but it's quieter with the card stock.

I remember trying to use a piece of red card stock once and it didn't work either. But, in that case, the reason's obviously that red lasers can't "see" red.

The bright white card stock must be too reflective. Sorta like trying to mouse on a mirror.

For more bang for the buck I have submitted to DARPA my prototype of semi lethal "super ball rubber bullets". Once fired they don't stop bouncing around for 30 seconds. They can go around corners and injure multiple targets in one shot. I got an endorsement from Steven Miller who said I am in the spirit of the Trump Presidency.

Load little ones in a 12 gauge shell and bounce all over the place forever.

I'm told the Pentagon is going another direction as in the 82nd Airborn with fixed bayonettes to quell demonstrations of democracy.

Bayonets are tools that can split a large crowd into smaller crowds if used correctly. Unfortunately, the US Army no longer teaches the use of the bayonet.

I have today ended three straight days of hand therapy (an hour or so each day, not all at once). Monday is my last day, sayeth the hand therapy place. I am told that they have done all they can for me, and now it's up to me to exercise my left thumb and hand. Wednesday next the surgeon (who retires at the end of the month) will "graduate" me. Now I gotta do all the work. Phooey!

May you stick out like a healed thumb.
Like your lips, the discomfort you feel is disproportionate to the area needing healing and stretching.

I clearly see a battlespace that has to be dominated. Brutal force will be required after all this pandemic stress. Perhaps killing millions of
germs will be the key but I gotta clean the downstairs bathroom at long last.

I think if I round up the copious amount of dog hair around here I'll evict germs at the same time.
