I went out again today, over to the Legion Hovel for morning coffee with some of "the boys." Nothing much new there, just a lot of coughing and some of the guys looking feverish and tired. But the corpse-laden tumbrils are rolling through the streets, and another plague pit is being dug over where the third green of the golf course out back used to be -- fortunately we won't be in the direct line of the wind! The first pit was downhill, where the second green used to be, but it's all filled in now. Over on the fifth fairway they're piling up wood for a pyre on Saturday evening.

I have had a bag of dried tart cheeries by my chair for a month. A little goes a long way. The pecans are gone but lots of other nuts remain. Other long term foods are canned goods and apple juice.
The only thing likely to get plump is me.

Yhe reason why Mom can't get a straight answer is because the Trump administration ordered federal health authorities to treat high-level discussions on the coronavirus as classified material.
In Taiwan there are only 100 cases for 25 million since they took the opposite approach of freedom of information.

Keep this under your hat because the fact that Covid 19 and the response is classified is also classified.

Memo to self re cherries: I soaked them in water for a day and they plumped up nicely. Then, I added vinegar and soaked them for another day to sanitize them. Then, I ate a bunch of them... at about 3AM, I ahhh, errr, never mind.

I'm five weeks out from surgery and have had to start tapering the Tramadol. Damned stuff is difficult to just stop taking after a few weeks. I'm cutting the tablet (I went and asked the pharmacist if I could) and will hopefully be off of this in a few days.

All of that time I haven't been able to go near the Legion Hovel. No alcohol with narcotics. I notice the door wasn't posted so I guess the local officials feel that place is an essential business (where else will alcoholics get their fix?)

Having had too many surgeries in the past few years, and my wife as well, we have left-over pain pills: Oxy and Hydro. We will use whatever is needed for this coming surgery and the remainder we'll sell give to the police. They have been locked up with the guns.

T-3 will be taken for the non-immediate time post-surgery, and NSAIDs and acetaminophen after that. I mean, why take them pills when the REAL stuff is the anesthesia, man?

Perhaps these are miraculus times. Helena Montana is virus free with 0 cases and reports of similar miracals are just coming in. I shoukd have never doubted Trump. Coincidentally I have lost 43 lbs on the Crispy Creme diet. I seem to getting 1,200 miles per gallon. My mudcat posts are appearing in the editorial section of the NYT. Steve Shaw has become the sweetist man on Earth and Rap says he and his wife inexplicably woke up this morning in their 30's. The weather here is the same as Hawaii and mudcat hasn't crashed in a year.
Its like a miracle.

That remarks needs to go on the coronavirus topic - I've worried about what it will look like in another week or so once two full weeks have passed after the insanity of spring break. Did those college students, now evicted from dorm rooms, go home to their parents to infect their families? I think that activity will be as bad or worse than the Mardi Gras stuff from early March. Yet Trump sits on the golden throne tweeting nonsense and fighting with governors who aren't nice to him.

Now back to the real BS - I finally got my Bluetooth headphones to transmit a signal so the computer could detect it. I can travel down that YouTube rabbit hole with the good quality sound of headphones versus the inadequate sound from my HD monitor (I got tired of having the extra set of speakers on my work desk, so just resolved to be unhappy with the sound. But now we're cooking with gas. Even if there is none plumbed to the house. . .

We have a gas furnace and a gas stove. We've considered a gas fireplace but it's too much hassle to run the gas line. We're looking into one of those fake-fire electric heaters as there's an outlet about 3 feet from the fireplace opening (I wouldn't want to guess as to why).

MOM!

I was using my corded sickle-bar type hedge trimmers to, well, trim some hedges, and I got the extension cord caught in the mechanism. So, I cut the damaged part of the cord away and replaced the plug with another one. It took about fifteen minutes or so. Then, I went to resume my trimming and discovered that I had replaced the FEMALE plug I had cut off with a MALE plug. So, I have an extension cord with two male plugs and not a single female plug with ground wire in my entire collection of electrical repair crap.

Would somebody please find the reset button in my brain and push it?

My next door neighbor scored a #20 parcel of organic baking flour for me at Costco when making a run for her son (he's an essential worker who needed TP and couldn't get to the store for it.) With as hard as it is to find flour, and as many people baking up a storm (I see those photos on Instagram!), by the end of these stay-at-home orders we're going to have to force our way out of our doors, having blown up in size from all of the baked goods.

I agree with Don, sharp objects and electrical shock are probably less dangerous than going to the store right now. I would still advise against ax-throwing as a sport, in case you were considering it. It's not so much that your thrown ax will miss it's mark and break something, it's that you'll split open your calf in the back-swing. Years ago some Forest Service friends calculated the risks, thinking they might want to join the competition with local loggers. They concluded that it wasn't worth it.
