The limerick I composed was full of cross-outs and lines added above and below. Writing poetry on paper, not the computer screen, means I'm looking at all of my attempts at once and can revert back in places easily. MOM suggests it's a waste of paper, but whatever. :)

There are dire rhymes that ring like a bell after every shout of "SHAME", or a like a klaxon bell at the end of a phrase.
It can still be used to amuse and sometimes claim praise,
but me it makes things sound PLAIN.

In my long days when I was small
the world held secrets in its craw.
Couriosity abounded.
Serendipity astounded
and innate ideas were my dreams.
Secrets like all's not as it seems
were at odds with hold to the past.
What I was taught did try to last
but thankfully faded to know more.
The secrets I sought made me sore.
They were not mine,
they were not kind
There are better ideas when small
Most secrets aren't secrets at all.
Love works best
Forget the rest
Get on with your amazing life.

As Ebbie tells me "Don't quit your day job".
My day job is life.

The thing is, if better words occur, I can go back and edit. It was a word salad meant to push WAV down the page, and for that, it worked. (I did enjoy the exercise. And I think my point was clear, correct?)

Bagpipe Music
by Louis Macneice

It's no go the merrygoround, it's no go the rickshaw,
All we want is a limousine and a ticket for the peepshow.
Their knickers are made of crepe-de-chine, their shoes are made of python,
Their halls are lined with tiger rugs and their walls with head of bison.

John MacDonald found a corpse, put it under the sofa,
Waited till it came to life and hit it with a poker,
Sold its eyes for souvenirs, sold its blood for whiskey,
Kept its bones for dumbbells to use when he was fifty.

It's no go the Yogi-man, it's no go Blavatsky,
All we want is a bank balance and a bit of skirt in a taxi.

Annie MacDougall went to milk, caught her foot in the heather,
Woke to hear a dance record playing of Old Vienna.

It's no go your maidenheads, it's no go your culture,
All we want is a Dunlop tire and the devil mend the puncture.

The Laird o' Phelps spent Hogmanay declaring he was sober,
Counted his feet to prove the fact and found he had one foot over.
Mrs. Carmichael had her fifth, looked at the job with repulsion,
Said to the midwife "Take it away; I'm through with overproduction."

It's no go the gossip column, it's no go the Ceilidh,
All we want is a mother's help and a sugar-stick for the baby.

Willie Murray cut his thumb, couldn't count the damage,
Took the hide of an Ayrshire cow and used it for a bandage.
His brother caught three hundred cran when the seas were lavish,
Threw the bleeders back in the sea and went upon the parish.

It's no go the Herring Board, it's no go the Bible,
All we want is a packet of fags when our hands are idle.

It's no go the picture palace, it's no go the stadium,
It's no go the country cot with a pot of pink geraniums,
It's no go the Government grants, it's no go the elections,
Sit on your arse for fifty years and hang your hat on a pension.

It's no go my honey love, it's no go my poppet;
Work your hands from day to day, the winds will blow the profit.
The glass is falling hour by hour, the glass will fall forever,
But if you break the bloody glass you won't hold up the weather.

It was a review of Proust's most boring excretions of his pen sketching his intermitably bad anti verse in the vacuum of the innocuous. His writing was like a weapon in the Great Deadly Boring War. It is rare to find a baseline of the "most" in life but WAV is truely the most boring.
WARNING: Excessive reading of walkabout verse may cause catatonia and an inability to chew gum and walk.

What you posted could earn you a libel suit. It has disappeared.

Poetry doesn't need to rhyme, but it certainly needs to make you think and enjoy it.

I posted a limerick in the "Do not post" thread because limericks are traditionally naughty and fun to write and lots of others have already been posted there.

Example of an improvised spontaneous ditty
or as the kids say; bustin a rhyme

The 300 year scope
of slow motion slaughter
used chains, iron and rope
Today bullets go farther
and has to stop or the holocaust
will shatter your life

You always knew that
black lives matter.

Anything can be a poem and doesn't need to rhyme,
but there should be some sort of rhythm implied.

Amos often stuck to a strict format but toward the end blew me away with organic brevity. To each their own.

The Southern Scourge

The yellow fever was raging,
Down in the sunny south;
And in many of the cities,
There was a death at every house.
This plague a war was raging,
With the lives of people there;
The young and old were stricken down,
And lay in sad despair.

No comfort, all was misery
In many a southern home.
Where once was peace and quietness,
Now in distress are thrown;
For death the house has visited,
And caused the inmates to mourn
The loss of some dear loving friend,
That on earth no more shall roam.

Some people in delirium,
Have wandered from their home;
Have wandered to a vacant house,
And there have died alone,
With no kind friend to care for them,
Or close their dying eyes.
Oh God! in horrid misery
Hundreds of people died.

There were many whole families
Taken down sick in a day;
With no one to care for them,
In death they passed away.
Their spirits arose to God above,
Where sickness is no more;
Where peace and comfort ever reign,
On Heaven's blissful shore.

There is many a southern city
To-day is filled with woe,
And many of the inhabitants
Have wandered to and fro
To nurse the sick and dying --
The dead for the grave prepare.
They tried to do their duty,
With hearts filled with despair.

The Howard Association
Have been doing all they can,
To keep the "plague" from raging
Throughout the southern land;
They nursed the sick, they fed the poor,
They work both night and day,
This brave band in the southern scourge
Heroic courage display.

This noble band of charity
Have went from house to house,
To ease the sad misery of
The sufferers at the south;
Sad scenes of death and suffering
Each day they must endure,
As in the daily rounds they went
Among the afflicted poor.

The noble northern people
Have helped them all they can,
In money, food and clothing
Which they had at their command;
There is many a southern person
That will bless this Howard band,
For their noble deeds of charity
To the sufferers of their land.
             -- Julia Ann Moore

Vogon poetry is described as "the third worst poetry in the Universe" behind that of the Azgoths of Kria; four members of an audience died of internal haemorrhaging during a recitation by their poet master Fartabout the Flatulent of his poem "Ode to a Small Lump of Green Pus I Found in My Armpit One Autumn Morning"

A movie company has pretty much bought out the candy warehouse but you can still relive those tooth rotting moments when you were a kid if you buy hard candy. The chocolate has oxidized into a white stone substance. The Willy Wonka Candy Company was discontinued in September 2015 and their candy products were put under the Nestle name in Switzerland. The warehouse location is still undiscovered. Its harder to find than the warehouses for billionaires in China.
Those warehouses and trusts are called 'family offices'. 64 TRILLION DOLLARS WORTH !!!
Maybe they will be the next target for Ocean's 11.

I too intentionally did not mention napalm. I was just being a second bannana.

Have you ever seen vintage candy for sale from the lost candy warehouse, whereabouts unknown? https://www.candywarehouse.com/themes/old-fashioned-candy-retro-sweets
I was thinking about how ice cores can determine the atmosphere in the past as well as tree rings and climate.
Back in the day there was honey or cane sugar in sweets.
These can be tested with a mass spectrometer at NIH and show how much fission by products and radioactive decay has taken place in the organic sugars and honey. It turns out that even years after the atmospheric test ban there were still traces of atomic misdeeds.
There were a few candies that were not dated. There were other pre atomic age candies and drinks that you would not believe what was revealed. Moxie was amazing.

Vintage candies Inc. is just about sold out so let me know if you need some really old candy.

I intentionally didn't mention napalm, but make a suggestion about fire around here and everyone jumps to that conclusion. I should have said drip torch, not flame thrower. None of you ever used a drip torch with a gasoline and diesel fuel mix? The diesel keeps the gasoline from being explosive.

Pressurized napalm. Napalm is jellied gasoline and when used in a flamethrower does NOT flame on exposure to the air -- there is an igniter for the steam. Napalm can be made at home from gasoline (unleaded is more environmentally friendly) by combining it with a plasticizer such as styrofoam or polystyrene beads, Joy soap (in the past, they changed for formula).

edit NOAA

This is not your typical tweedle dee or tweedledumb choice this election. It is more like his excellency Dungmold J Trounce vs. citizen Joey. Ignorant bullies will unite behind their like minded Fuerer. Yes this includes police who were drawn to the bully force in the first place. I have heard a Police Captain in an unguarded moment and he sounded like a mini Turdp and confused insult with power. We have seen a rethinking of our civil war and its monuments. Trump will not be forgotten but will become a martyr for terrorists as long as the 1865 civil war rememberance and will remind the haters how close they got to a 4th Reich. Its not over for a long time and the past has not passed.

Stream of consciousness; I do more than parrot facts. I can do parody, editorializing, opinion, historical resemblance (but not as good as Rap) , epic cartoons and fail at jokes where BWL excels. This confuses folks keb. It burns Joe O's toast but thats the way the kook e-crumbles. If it is a straight up humorous take I sometimes label it with :^/ In these grim times I often give a smirk version of facts but that is not in any way misinformaion. Other things are too subtle to label.
Unless new rules will require all posts must be footnoted, communication will be truncated. Then there are people like Maggie who naturally get it. Like discussing science it has to be predicated on a whole list of pre existing knowledge and shared truths.

Historic pandemics is an interesting subject to be sure. I am also intrigued by prehistoric pandemics. Cretaceous pandemics may have been huge, not to be confused eith mass extinction events.

For those who have been to the Tidal Basin in DC with the Jefferson Memorial and cherry trees may be interested to know of its slow demise due to to the mysterious rising waters. Sixteen more cherry trees have drowned this year. There are plans to solve this water problem and solutions actually include moving the MLK monument which Trumo shows the most enthusiasm.

Northern Tool took so long to send my electric string trimmer that I called a couple of times to ask where it was. I guess they must have ordered it again; I had a FedEx message that they wanted a street address for a delivery (after I'd already picked up the one that arrived at the store) so I gave the store the tracking number and told them they might want to check it out. Either this was the same one I'd picked up (after FedEx took it to the store) or it was a duplicate.

Today they sent an email acknowledging the return. I think they credited me back the purchase price. Duh. If they're going to be that slow and disorganized I guess they're going to give away the merchandise occasionally.

I just had a 'Go Fund Me' idea regarding an unofficial Trump memorial statue of a heavenly golden golf bag containing broken golf clubs with a bronze plaque saying:
"In loving memory to Donald J Trump from immigrant parents, gay lesbian, bi transgender, advocates of diversity, Covid victims and patriots of democracy - for his timely passing."
The golf bag and each club is labeled TRUMP.

I would like to see it on Obama Plaza at the Trump tower or as a replacement for the defiant young lady that will sadly soon be removed from the Wall street statue site of the Raging Bull.

On the other hand eat drink and be joyous.
I live near 2 different Walter Reed facilitie. West Nile infected mosquitos escaped from one 20 years ago. I guess west nile didn't like the climate here and didn't persist. As far as I know.

Mom, I'm done and I'm going to bed. Walter Reed died in 1902 or a burst appendix after finishing his work in Cuba on Yellow Fever (proving the hypothesis of Dr. Carlos Finley of Cuba that YF is spread by mosquitoes) in 1901. This also proved the worth of the cleanup of New Orleans by Benjamin Butler during the Civil War, but nobody paid any attention at the time.

I've learned that if a disease isn't carried by an insect it spreads by inhaling and exhaling or because people foul the water with their shit and other people ingest it.

So, to avoid disease, don't eat, drink, or breathe.
