Mom!

There are currently 19 threads in the "music" section upstairs and 26 threads in the BS section! There's more BS than music for the first time in recent memory! And some people had the nerve to say BS was dead!

Okay, half of those BS threads are the Brits going on incessantly about their political horseshit, but I suppose they count anyway. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

Limeys calling each other names. Tsk, tsk. We would never ever do that in the US!

Granted, I do think it would be interesting if dueling (swords only) were re-instituted and folks had to put up or shut up. Knowing you might be called upon to put your life on the line to back up your cockamamie insults/opinions might make you think again before calling someone (excuse the language!) a "dumb poopyhead".

The Galactic Overlord has stopped the sun from coming up! We're all gonna freeze and stuff!!

The fog is so dense here you can't see a full block ahead of you, so what do you expect? The Galactic Overlord slept in this morning, apparently. (And I thinned out the Limeys yesterday, there was way too much bickering going on in that cross-thread running battle.)

Mom!

Forrest Gump lied!

Life is NOT like a box of chocolates!

Life is like a claw machine in the vending area at the entrance to a Walmart. Most of the time, you just feed quarters to it and get nothing back. Every once in a while, you get a tiny stuffed penguin.

NOBODY ever gets the drone.

I made a slight error. The sun did come up, and also yesterday and today. I shall predict that it shall come up tomorrow. I may write a song about it called "Tomorrow."

How's this sound?

The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow
There'll be sun!

I probably need some more verses. Amos would write it in jig time, but since I can't dance a jig (or much of anything else these days) I'll write it in plain ol' 9/16 or something.

Happy Gnu Year's is on the way.

And I noticed something curious.
The big Mother of All BS Threads is still closed for repairs;
that page still comes up.
What's curious is that I can use the Filter Search thread title feature,
enter Mother of all BS Threads,
and the Great Old Thread still appears in the search results.
That's how I got the 'closed for repairs' page.

Mom is eternal.

Now that Betelgeuse looks like it's going to go nova or even supernova it makes me wonder if it's the work of the Galactic You-Know-Who. (Is there a Galactic Overlady? Or do women just naturally rule the Overlords?)

Subject: RE: MOAB - Mother of All BS [annex]

The real reason Betelgeuse is going to blow up is because the Galactic Overlord has never liked the star's name. A zillion times bigger than our Sun and the best name we humans can come up with is Betelgeuse? It's hard to spell and sounds like a joke. And what does it even mean?

The GO has decided to get rid of Betelgeuse and replace it with something else, in hopes we'll give the new thing a more dignified name.

Like Bryce or Heather.

I find it curious that Tomorrow is unreachable in the now. It is untouchable and forever out of realization except in the cosmologist's POV thought experiment, "the slice of Time model".
Only there is there a place and time where tommorrow has already happened.

If the Son will 'come out' tommorrow, is a personal matter.

Thats the truth

I suppose that the inhabitants around Betelgeuse (there are FOUR E's in that name!) could simply be reducing their energy usage and the GO isn't involved at all. Of course, he does own the power utilities out that way and lack of income could annoy him.

If a planet's orbit is tidally locked with its star so that the same planetary surface always faces the star, there are no days. There's just the same shit all the time. Boring!

The sun won't come out tomorrow
'Cause the damned thing's always in the sky
We can't think about tomorrow

BWL, it is said there are 3 TRUTHS we deal with in our universe; personal truth, political truth and objective truth.

Personally if Betelguse blew up today we will never see it in our lifetime as its light and gravity waves make their journey of 430 light years to Earth.

Politically the 'make Betelgeuse great again' movement has been good for their antisemetism attacks, mass shootings, nazis, zenophobic internment camps for immigrant children and waves of enourmous hate that is on the verge of exploding.

Objectively Betelgeuse could go on like this for another million years before its mega nova.

It may be as far as 650+ light years away depending upon galactic variations, orbits, time and dark energy, but who is counting.
If you were lucky when it exploded in the distant past, you would be able to see it in the daytime sky. Gamma ray damage would be 'light'.

I am off to Missoula and then to Spokane around first light tomorrow. The forecast changed from pleine du neige to plus de plui. If your French or mine is rusty and squeaky, lots of snow was changed to lots of rain (maybe). Anyway, the temperatures changed from low 30s F to 40s F. Since we are going by car I'm taking my laptop and will let y'all know if I'm still alive. Back home Sunday sometime.

Why visit the Spokane Museum of Arts and Culture? Because

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a rare embroidered Bengali quilt which, according to recent research, is most likely one of the oldest surviving quilts in the United States. Its design, materials, and construction indicate that it was made in Bengal during the 17th century. Genealogical research suggests that it was brought to Massachusetts during the 1600s and to Spokane around 1900 by the family of David L. Huntington, for whom Huntington Park is named. This provenance is supported by consultation with outside experts.

My wife has an "in" with the curator of the textiles there.

Mom!

I've discovered a foolproof way for you and your friends to get away with doing unscrupulous things without getting caught! Just make sure you NEVER refer to the deliberative process leading up to the actual nefarious deed(s) as "hatching a plot". When plots are hatched, the events which ensue are automatically doomed to failure. Just call the planning process "doing the laundry" or something, and everything will go perfectly.

Also, make sure you don't claim afterwards that everything "went off without a hitch". That's a sure-fire way to guarantee that some moron left their wallet at the scene of the crime.

The good news today is that I found a file I saved back in 2015, with links to all of the poems posted in MOM1 that Amos wanted hidden so he could publish them in a book. Or I may have taken them out of the posts, I can't remember. It's possible to open individual posts if the results show up in a search, but I can't paste the link directly into the search bar and get anything but code "500 Internal Server Error." I have to figure out if I can search on the message number.

The bummer today is that I was at the grocery store self-checkout with stuff from my shopping list and I accidentally left my milk carton behind (I didn't scan it so I didn't pay for it, it's down on that little shelf beside the register). Now what else did I set on that shelf? And I seem to have lost that shopping list.

Most of the poems that were hidden (several dozen) in the Mudcat Poetry Corner thread have been restored. I think Amos' plans to publish that poetry were cut short by life and the move, and then his death. There are a few more to track down at some point in the future, but this is the lion's share, as far as I can tell.

The "3-7-77" thing is just a little joke Montanans play to confuse out-of-staters. The entire state of Montana is seeded with similar notes placed in random locations. They're intended to make unsuspecting non-Montanans wonder why the date is important when, in actuality, it's a day on which nothing out of the ordinary happened.

Montanans are easily amused.

3-7-77 bible verse
...So each leader brought the following gifts: a silver bowl that weighed over three pounds and a silver sprinkling bowl weighing almost two pounds, both of them filled with flour and olive oil as grain sacrifices and weighed according to the official standards; a small gold dish filled with incense; a young bull, a full-grown ram, and a year-old ram as sacrifices to please the Lord; a goat as a sacrifice for sin; and two bulls, five full-grown rams, five goats, and five rams a year old as sacrifices to ask the Lord’s blessing...

King James Reader's Digest version:

...and two bulls, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs a year old, for the fellowship sacrifice. This was the offering of Pagiel son of Ochran.

Gluon and her duck-dog friends haven't been by for a while or they could have grazed it down. At the same time they need to eat the large snails and slugs that are appearing out there. I haven't seen this size in all of the years I've lived here (38 of them so far - OMG who knew I'd ever move to Texas, let alone live here for such a long time).
