We have a gas furnace and a gas stove. We've considered a gas fireplace but it's too much hassle to run the gas line. We're looking into one of those fake-fire electric heaters as there's an outlet about 3 feet from the fireplace opening (I wouldn't want to guess as to why).

The secret to peer into the future is to scrutinize the past.

In 1919-1920 people grew weary and stopped the very same social distancing measures we use today. As a result when the second wave arrived it was more catastrophic than it needed to be. And again with the 3rd wave.

Their past is our future.

Our own collective behavior will exaccerbate the outcome but does not cause the 2nd and 3rd wave.

MOM!

I was using my corded sickle-bar type hedge trimmers to, well, trim some hedges, and I got the extension cord caught in the mechanism. So, I cut the damaged part of the cord away and replaced the plug with another one. It took about fifteen minutes or so. Then, I went to resume my trimming and discovered that I had replaced the FEMALE plug I had cut off with a MALE plug. So, I have an extension cord with two male plugs and not a single female plug with ground wire in my entire collection of electrical repair crap.

Would somebody please find the reset button in my brain and push it?

MOM!

A friend gave me a box of "Harris Famous Roach Tablets" a while back. They don't work. I dropped one in a shallow pan of water a week ago and it's still just sitting there. Not a single roach has grown from it! Did I do it wrong? Maybe they need to be planted in dirt instead....

BWL, I told the family to cease any activity of risk because there is no plan b. Plan b is going to the emergncy room which has more risk than plan A.

Dealing with poisons and whirring cutting blades qualify as plan A.
I have warned since January that there are new rules.
Mom says behave yourself.

PS vote by mail.

Gee, at 10:20 a.m. MDT today I get an EMG. The cup of my life overflows.

My next door neighbor scored a #20 parcel of organic baking flour for me at Costco when making a run for her son (he's an essential worker who needed TP and couldn't get to the store for it.) With as hard as it is to find flour, and as many people baking up a storm (I see those photos on Instagram!), by the end of these stay-at-home orders we're going to have to force our way out of our doors, having blown up in size from all of the baked goods.

I agree with Don, sharp objects and electrical shock are probably less dangerous than going to the store right now. I would still advise against ax-throwing as a sport, in case you were considering it. It's not so much that your thrown ax will miss it's mark and break something, it's that you'll split open your calf in the back-swing. Years ago some Forest Service friends calculated the risks, thinking they might want to join the competition with local loggers. They concluded that it wasn't worth it.

Same sex (non binary) Extension Cords are a rarity. LGBTQ-EC will defend their right to be, so don't throw it away. Better to make it a gift. Or save for an electrifying practical joke.

Someone opened an axe-throwing bar in Pensacola a few months ago. Get sloshed and throw axes at targets! Or bring your own things you hate and throw axes at them until they're in pieces in the Rage Room!

Errrr... Hmmmm... Sorry guys, but I don't need to drive 45 miles into Pensacola if I want to throw axes at shit. I have lots of axes and hatchets and plenty of trees. And if I want to destroy some shit I don't like anymore, I prefer the option of using sledgehammers and firearms as well as axes

If you ever want to plug one house into another, you can use the cord with two male plugs to run between them. Will it transmit power? Who knows.

I had Aldi deliver some items that I didn't get on my last run and it isn't worth it to go out for "luxuries." Chocolate, beer, snacks. It was an expensive delivery, but I did my part supporting the gig economy. MOM would be proud, one of those items was some Shiner Bock beer; I haven't had any alcohol for a couple of months because of the surgery and medications involved.

No alcohol? WHAT DID THEY USE FOR ANESTHESIA??? I was given a couple of (full) glasses of whiskey and a .62 caliber musket ball to bite on! What sort of cheap-o surgeons do they have in Texas?

The surgeon said to Pat that there wasn't any cartilage left so "no wonder he hurt!" Now I'll wear a splint until the 15th and then a cast for six weeks. The bone has to fuse around the screw in my thumb bones.

Mom!

I'm having a serious case of All-You-Can-Eat Buffet Withdrawal! My favorite is a Thai buffet in Pensacola, but right now I'd settle for Chinese or Golden Corral or even KFC Buffet. I may even be willing to drive to Idaho to eat at the Chuck-a-Rama in Boise. (The only AYCE place I've ever been to that has more buffet space devoted to potato dishes than salads, meats, and vegetables combined.)

I have lentil soup in my fridge right now. If you drive to Idaho, travel via Texas and you can sit in the driveway and I'll put a bowl of hot soup on the porch (using gloves and a mask) and then you're on your way. You'll be in a better frame of mind for Idaho (and Rap has a huge honker house - you could stay in his basement or somewhere and they'd hardly know you were around. Just watch it in case the shower head is still hot-wired.)

I've lost about twenty pounds in the last few weeks! I've been on the Loss and Misery Diet. I don't recommend it. Try Weight-Watchers instead.

Then again, the weight loss may be partly due to the aforementioned temporary closure of all the All-You-Can-Eat Buffet restaurants.

Either way, self-care is the Rx. Get takeout from another place that serves so you have something to eat in the house - that you can pop in the microwave. That loss and misery diet is brutal; I was on it one time and ended up 50 pounds less than I am now (which is about 30 pounds over normal).

These days I have at least one really easy meal ready to go each day. I just set up a small crockpot with steel cut oats, raisins, a dash of salt, and a quart of boiling water, and I'll have about 3 days of breakfasts (it reheats well.) Even if it means keeping a tub of cottage cheese in the fridge and a case of honeybuns in the freezer, give yourself something really easy for a meal.

We're not going out much (of course) but we are eating well. It is, however, beginning to look like the neighborhood is running out of pets.

If you were wondering, the Legion Hovel has been declared "Extra Special Essential" by all levels of government. It has a Super Duper Essential Priority 1-AAAA for everything it wants or needs. The last time it ran short of beer the riots destroyed most of the cities of Boise, Meridian, Twin Falls, Heck, Idaho Falls, Hamer, Couer d'Alene, Bliss, and Dingle. Inkom was slightly damaged as well.

Tie up the knocker, say I'm sick, I'm dead.
The dog-star rages! nay 'tis past a doubt,
All Bedlam, or Parnassus, is let out:
Fire in each eye, and papers in each hand,
They rave, recite, and madden round the land.

What walls can guard me, or what shades can hide?
They pierce my thickets, through my grot they glide;
By land, by water, they renew the charge;
They stop the chariot, and they board the barge.

Most towns around here eventually become something else as evidenced by road names that do tend to remain the same.

Maryland Route 5 (Leonardtown Road), which joins US 301 in Brandywine to the north and splits at the county line to bypass Waldorf on Mattawoman-Beantown Road...The sewage treatment plant is of course in former Beantown.

'Ghost' towns around here are either gentrified or left to highly populated decrepitude based mostly on race.

As for Mattawoman, it has a story lost in the fog of history along with Parnasus NJ.

Early maps identify the area where Mattawomen later became incorporated, as the vast Pat Hopschtingle farm. The limited information from Ancestory.com says that Pat was of Irish German descent but lists no gender which calls into speculation that Mattawoman became short for Man or Woman?

Make my grave in the Trump Hotel,
Not a lowly plain, or a lofty hill;
Put it at the end of the escaltor,
On the doorstep of the great imitator .

Engrave Trump lies around my grave.
Like Arlington make sure that I stay
His shadow above my silent tomb
Would make it a place of fear & gloom.

I could rest in the noise of Fifth Avenue
On my birthday you can have free barbecue.
Try to manage a shriek of wild despair
Like a million curses in NYC air.

I could not sleep if Trump went free
His dieing in prison is reason for glee
Such a cruel narcissist unfeeling beast
should be punished for his hateful beliefs.

Let my grave in the Trump Hotel help remind
how the US was fired, attacked by virus and died
One day Trump hotels will be demolished.
Maybe men like Trump will be abolished

I ask no monument, proud and high,
To arrest the gaze of the passers-by;
All that my yearning spirit craves,
Is if he outlives me he'll not stay

Enraged, outraged, up raged and down raged.
I feel we were completely and deliberately betrayed.
Messengers and facts were deflected as HOAX!
With loss of life these are no longer jokes.
Our lack of preparation is mostly homemade.
Our medicine is to hide and not be afraid.
Janitors and ministers alike cough and choke.
Sad that the innocent and guilty must both croak.

Who is this nobody?
"Nobody has ever seen such a great economy, Nobody has ever seen such great numbers. Nobody can believe such miracles I have made".
Does nobody mean No one or is there a real Mr. Nobody?

And what about fantastic?
"I have fantastic numbers. I have made fantastic progress".
Doesn't fantastic mean; imaginative or fanciful; remote from reality?

Doesn't incredible mean without credibility? the word Unbelievable is equal to incredible.

In the next 5 o'clock speech,
Count how many times you hear the words; nobody, fantastic, unbelievable and incredible.

Divide by the number of times of the word tremendous is mentioned and...

You will get a coefficient either above five or below 5.
Below 5 is a gigantic lieing ass hole
Above 5 is a huge lieing ass hole

Mom!

I am so angry! When I built the cabinets in my kitchen over twenty years ago, I made the drawers just a bit over ten inches wide because that was the width of a wicker cutlery tray we had. Who knows where it came from. It was just there. I assumed the tray was of a standard size and that we'd be able to get a replacement when needed. Over the years, being wicker and in regular use, the tray started to get raggedy and my wife began to hound me about replacing it. That's when I found that it was definitely NOT a standard size. I must have tried to find a replacement for ten years or more. Today, I accomplished the goal! I found a cutlery tray exactly 10.04 inches wide. It fits in the drawer like they were custom made for each other!

So, to recap, after many years of trying to please my wife by replacing our ratty cutlery tray, I finally find one that's perfect. And my wife's no longer around to be pleased. Fuck!

Three days away from a full 14 days of not going into any other buildings like the grocery store or the Legion Hovel. I did deliver my water bill to a drop-off slot (didn't touch it with my hand) and to the gas station for 2 gallons of mower gas (used a glove on the pump and washed my credit card when I got home.)

The worst part of being about 95% over the total knee replacement surgery is that I'm all fixed up but there's no place to go.

For you guys who might not sew (I know several who do, so I won't assume anything here): yet another approach to making facemasks, this time out of short tube socks.

No ordering masks, I've pulled out a bunch of my stash and am deciding what layers need to go together, and trying a couple of different designs. For all of those people who sew or quilt or do various fabric arts, suddenly our stashes are pure gold. Until now we laughed about the excess. No more.

MOM wants a flannel mask but since it's a plaid print she's being fussy and insisting that the pattern be aligned down the center seam. She'll relax a little once I make the curbside pickup of adult beverages from the local Total Wine and More store. I'm planning to redistribute a bottle to a friend who hasn't been able to visit his favorite bar for weeks now, but there's a bottle for the house also.

A double layer of cotton quilting fabric handles a lot of The Bad Stuff. Put some high-grade furnace filter stuff between them, if you have it (use new stuff, not used filter stuff).

I went out today for the first time in 9 days. I wore my mask and stuff like a good citizen and I left my shootin' iron at home 'cause I didn't see no need fer it just then.
