That castle was once stuffed to the rafters with stolen Art by the Reich.

I got around to verifying the vertical rainbow I saw in April.
None were as bright and colorful as the one I saw but they all do only appear at sunset. It was definately Overlord phenomena and amazing.

A Texas Gonzo hurricane COMBINED WITH an extreme pandemic / government take over / historic unemployment and food shortage didn't seem likely last year but its time to admit the shit has hit the fan.

Looking for a source of modest entertainment? Put one of those little floating solar fountains into the bird bath and watch the birds approach it only to do a quick turn and escape when the water spouts. They'll figure it out eventually, I'd put money on it.

Speaking of squirrels, I think the ones living around my house have become too inbred and are suffering from a genetic mental impairment. They're falling out of trees with astonishing regularity. It took about 55 years for me to witness just ONE squirrel falling from a tree. Now it seems to happen every couple of weeks. Gotta be a hereditary brain malfunction.

I suppose the squirrels are lucky that my house is back in the woods instead of near the road like most people's. If they aren't smart enough to do everyday squirrel stuff like climbing trees, there's no way they'd survive crossing the road.

One bird feather was left behind in the bird bath with the fountain, so someone was brave enough to try it. The other bird bath has a number of feathers, so as a control group I see that most of them are still shy of the spurt of water.

I dismantled a crumbling squirrel drey (a word I've never used, but someone else applied it to a recent photo of this thing so I'm trying to remember to use it). Lots of polyfill from a destroyed patio seat (they need to thank the puppy for that) and tons of plastic grocery bags woven through it. The deteriorating plastic is probably the reason for the abandonment, and the location directly over a very large agave plant suggests that if my squirrels are falling out of the tree they're being impaled on the agave. They either all died falling out or got smart and moved on.

A final wildlife observation: No one I know would be this stupid but obviously there are a few.

Some critters just ain't too smart when it comes to nesting sites. We once had a wicker cat bed on the screened porch. I had removed the porch door in order to paint it and, while it was off, a wren built a nest in the cat bed.

Back in '65 I was walkin' the levees for the flood, and it was a pretty good one. Bein' in the National Guard, I didn't have much say in the matter, but I was walkin' south of town and my very own brother (in the other NG company) was walkin' north of town.

Well, the levee broke north of town and flooded a bunch of prime bottomland. Farmer there had a $1 million line of credit (in 1965 this was a lot!) and a couple of brand-new championship bulls he'd just bought. The bulls and some other cattle drowned and his newly-planted 1,000 acres were covered with six feet of floodwater.

Eventually all the water ran off and his land dried out.

Next Spring he had a @2.5 million dollar line of credit and his insurance paid for the loss of his house, farm equipment, and suchlike. Why the increase? Because he now had better than three FEET of brand-new, super-fertile topsoil all over his land.

Now, to deliberately build a house -- just a house for a family -- in a floodplain or on a shore or somewhere like that, well, you pays yer money and you takes your chances.

I have a virtual appointment with my rheumatologist next week. A big "whew" that I don't have to step on the scale in her office, but I have a "smart scale" here so who knows, it might rat me out.

I live just above a creek and pay flood insurance. We always keep our fingers crossed, though it's a flood zone on paper only, so far it has pretty much stayed in it's banks.

Watch a baseball game and you may see statisics being made or an unlikely tremendous play so while we see the same game we each bring something different to the experience. Parts of the 'unlikely' IS enjoyment of the game. SO this is why baseball entertains us. It is a demonstration of the wierdness of quantum mechanics. It is true anyone who says they understand quantum mechanics - doesn't.

Sometimes it may even be a boring game, which is wierd in itself.

Probabilities have shown us that we can get entangled with a destructive moron becoming President. We can complain when reality isn't rational BUT ITS NOT. Perhaps we should make a new kind of computer that uses spooky action at a distance and employ only entangled atoms - instead of electrons and calculate an accidental utopia just for grins and giggles.
But a game of all home runs would not appeal to us for long.

We the people are on the same page more than in days past.
For me it has been a learning experience that has gone full circle. It only took global warming, global pandemics, global disasters and global leadership that starves and sickens anyone with funds less than millions of dollars. Pinched to oblivion this is a turning point. The Pendulum can swing no further up and is on the way back down. In other words history will repeat. We must push the boulder back up the hill. We have given the smart people a chance to lead, we have given the dumb people a chance to lead and can now compare.
I hope that in hundreds of years our smart people today will seem dumb compared to the future folks as the social pendulum continues to trace its wave. Curiously humans will not do it alone. It will involve a wide spectrum of life itself from galactic overlords to virus.

There is a test one does on old spools of thread to see if they are still viable for sewing. Unwrap a few inches and give it a sharp yank; if it snaps off, it's too brittle. I had a lovely box full of thread from my mother's house and it added up to 96 spools, many of them wooden (none so old as stone, she wasn't born in the dark ages).

Did you know that you can sell this now-worthless thread to people on eBay? Maybe they buy it for the spools (but quite a few of mine are also plastic). I looked around and have a price in mind and some lovely photos of these defunct tubes of cotton. If I learn later that is there some fabulous craft idea that brings in megabuck$ for items made with these old spools, I'll take my troubles down to the Legion Hovel and we can discuss where to find more old useless spools of thread.
