I hate to think of what they might be grazing on in the back yard that is possibly the reason for this.

Into the dragon's den this afternoon, to complete the demonstration tour for a docent course I've been taking since February. It's now or never, because the instructor is retiring as of tomorrow, and who knows when they'll hire someone else to do the job. There are aspects of working with this person that makes her retirement a desirable thing, and that makes this last test not only one to show what I've learned, but also my ability to speak and bite my tongue simultaneously. I may stop by the Legion Hovel to buy a round afterwards.

Keb, they're still in distribution. Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, the Food Bank, a local endeavor called "Wall of Warmth," some went to the Shosone-Bannock Reservation, some to the Nez Perce, some to the Lemhi Shoshone, and the local School District. "Local" in this case means anyone who needs a warm coat. The local Catholic parish took a case to keep in the office because they have people walk in who need on. Likewise the Central Christian Church, the Methodists, the Lutherans (including the Lutheran School), and the LDS.

Out here everyone tried to work together under the assumption "If you're cold, you're cold and race, religion, politics, or anything else is irrelevant."

I send extra garden food and groceries I pick up at my discount grocer to a community fridge. Were I to tuck bagged new jackets into the pantry beside the fridge, people who need them would take them. It's an honor system, but it does seem to be working, and the thought that people who need food also need warm jackets is a logical one.

Not BS. The BS is what I just posted in the declutter thread, about the woman (soon to retire) who has her favorites in the docent course she teaches, and I'm not one of her favorites, so she is making my completion of the course difficult. My daughter told me about her way back when, and I figured I could just take the high ground, play along and ignore the bad behavior and get through the course, but she's being a PITA. After she retires this will be a pretty good place to work - two of the most troublesome staff leaving in one year. (The other marched out in a huff last spring after the HR folks told him - again - that he couldn't keep walking into rooms and talking to people without wearing a mask.) Once he was gone - the stories people told - and wondered how he ever lasted so long. Karma was made for these folks - if you are lucky you get to see it at work, but for now, that she's leaving is going to be enough.

Those who need a coat may have the same question as you and don't have an i phone to do a google search so you gotta deliver them where 'they' are. Tent cities, encampments under bridges certain districts will not be that hard to find. In San Francisco the homeless are often in vehicles or sidewalks.

Yes, we'll contact the homeless shelter, the local food bank, the local St. Vincent de Paul's, the Veterans Home, churches, the school district -- some are even going to the Shoshone-Bannock Reservation. Others have been sent to other towns, such as those up near the Nez Perce Reservation.

It's an odd situation when you have a hard time giving away good coats! But we'll get them to those who need them. Don't want no cold folks in this here town, ya see?

Contrary to popular belief, Goodwill isn't a charity shop, they sell items in order to pay for the training and the staff they have in their stores. I don't donate to Salvation Army much any more because they insist too much still on the religious component of their good works.

I just finished a jigsaw puzzle that would have been tough enough on its own, but the last person who owned it lost about 36 pieces before they reboxed it and donated to the thrift store. I knew way back when that it was missing at least a few edge pieces, but when I finished with what I had, there are big gaps. It was a cruel act when that last person passed along this flawed puzzle. I just scraped it off of the table into the trash can. (That was 550 pieces minus 36; the next one is a killer with 750 pieces on an xmas theme. Let's see if I can finish it by the new year!)
