Subject: August Bank Holiday events, England? From: GUEST Date: 19 Aug 19 - 05:04 AM Hi all, Other than Towersey and Shrewsbury festivals this weekend, does anyone know of any smaller (and cheaper!) events on this weekend - ideally around NW England / West Midlands? Thanks! |

Subject: RE: August Bank Holiday events, England? From: John J Date: 19 Aug 19 - 07:49 AM Whoops, 'Guest' was me - inadvertantly logged off. Thanks for the link, I checked earlier but there's nothing listed that suits - they're either too far away (for a Bank Holiday weekend) or too expensive....I'll just have to keep looking, I'm sure that *something* will be on somewhere. Thanks again! |

Subject: RE: August Bank Holiday events, England? From: FreddyHeadey Date: 19 Aug 19 - 10:42 AM Shrewsbury is a pretty tough one for a festival organiser to pitch themselves against... If you find one not listed on UKfolkfestivals please let them know on their contacts page. For non folk you might find something on Ents24 https://www.ents24.com/whatson/near/290413/radius/55/genres/festival/order/date For local knowledge, could post the question on a local Facebook page. Theres a series ".....shire Folk Musicians" just edit the '....shire' to suit. https://m.facebook.com/search/top/?q=shire%20folk%20musicians&ref=content_filter&tsid=0.4377949951740523&source=typeahead Maybe you'll find a beer festival or something with some music. |

Subject: RE: August Bank Holiday events, England? From: John J Date: 21 Aug 19 - 04:40 AM Thanks! I'm considering camping near to Shrewsbury and then spending Saturday wandering around the town in search of a pub sing or session. |

Subject: RE: August Bank Holiday events, England? From: Noreen Date: 21 Aug 19 - 06:28 PM Should be plenty going on around town in Shrewsbury on the Saturday JJ, as well as the morris procssion there's a free street ceili this year I haven't been to Shrewsbury festival for a few years now but the pubs are great. Some are used as venues though so don't know which are sessionable. Happy memories of the Three Fishes, the first year the festival was held in Shrewsbury. We didn't know the town so had to find our way round by visiting as many of the pubs as possible. The local were so welcoming- I hope it's still as good. I'd be tempted to do what you're planning to do if I didn't have to work on Saturday. |
