Whenever protests such as these take place, inevitable there are accusations of 'foreign interference'
It seem that in calling for an unstable leader such as Trump to "Liberate Hong Kong" the protestors appear to have confirmed that this is the case
Would welcome opinions please
Jim Carroll

Why not, he and his corrupt administration are using the U.S. Treasury like it's their personal ATM, why wouldn't they want to have the opportunity to fleece a wealthy place like Hong Kong as well.

Here's a timeline that only runs through March of 2018, and doesn't include more recent scandals like Prestwich/Turnberry, Pence/Dunbeg and G7/Doral. -

From nymag.com

I hope that U.S. voters are aware of all this unethical behavior by the most corrupt administration in our history. It shouldn't be hard to stay abreast, they're doing most of it out in the open. Just imagine the stuff that's going on that they don't want us to know about.

I'm pretty sure that the red elites of the PRC could teach Trump and his ilk a few trenchant lessons in corruption and meanwhile I'm not sure that Trump's idea of 'help' for the people of Hong Kong would be truly helpful.

"I'm pretty sure that the red elites of the PRC could teach Trump and his ilk a few trenchant lessons in corruption"
It seems to me that sort of 'whataboutism' is precisely what Trump needs to win the next election Robo
All political systems have their villains - not many have dropped atom bombs on civilians and spent 14 years pouring burning petrol on peasants because they are "reds"
It's the ideals behind the politics that count, not the bits that go wrong
It's about time we moved away from Cold-War rhetoric and sloganising

Hong Kong is part of the Chinese system by treaty now - that is the present reality
Trying to make it part of America seems to me a leap from frying pan into fire
Rather ran arguing the relative merits of both, how about taking a long-hard look at the side you (theoretically) have a say in and putting things right in your own back yard
Personally I see Trump's US every bit as terrifying as the Chinese crowd or the gangsters running 'Free Russia' - each one of them individually pose a far greater world threat than did teh old Soviet Union -

I don't quite understand the original question but don't look for a U.S. intervention in Hong Kong. Trump is an isolationist and all his failed attempts at conducting foreign policy are reduced to a quest for photo ops in his futile quest for a Nobel Prize.

It's not so much intervention by the US Gilly, but the request that he do so by the protestors.
No matter what the 'officcial' policy on intervening in other nations, organisations such as the CIA are as active abroad as they are 'Back in the US of A'
That's never going to change

in my opinion the cia and mi5 are trying to destabilise china, encouraging trouble in hong kong.the following arouses my suspicions, who is paying his fees?
A leader of the recent violent protests in Hong Kong has left the city for the U.S., to get a master's degree at Yale University. Nathan Law posted on Facebook that he had arrived in New York, and called for remaining protesters to keep fighting.

Ithink there is a danger of this going too far the opposite way Dick
You have to start from the position that many inHong Kong have genuine problems and real questions of what is happening
As with Czechoslovakia and Hungary, the Western nations are quite happy to use and exacerbate those problems for political gain, but it doesn't mean they are not problems
The sad thing here is that they have turned to the feller who has turned the US into a right-wing swamp to "free" them

Of course no-one mentions Taiwan. Or more specifically what is enshrined in government as a province of China. A much bigger prize than Hong Kong. And contentious, if less acrimonious because of reality.

Hong Kong had a treaty as part of the hand-over. That treaty is being eroded. China doesn't have a good record of human rights, how many instances do you want?

We have no problems selling arms or politically supporting countries with far worse records
I am in no way supporting China's record - that's another discussion entirely
I am saying it's up to the people of Hong Kong to deal with it it
Tiawan is a typical case of the west not giving to monkeys about the people but happy to use it as "a shield against Communism' as was pre war Britain with 'New Germany'

Sorry Gilly - not sure what you want linked
Understanding and explaining what is happening in China, Hong Kong - et al has taken me best part of a lifetime and even then, I am still only faced with contradictory opinions
I always found it as handy to start with someone like William Hinton, the American farmer who wrote 'Fanshen' - a magnificently harrowing description of pre-revolutionary China, go on THE LONG MARCH to see what they did about it and follow it through from there
Quirte a lot of reading
Jim
