Subject: Trotto - 1970s early music From: GUEST,BlackAcornUK Date: 11 Sep 19 - 07:07 PM Does anyone know this band/1976 album? Were they any good? Trotto: Songs and Dances from the Middle Ages to the Present Day https://mainlynorfolk.info/folk/records/trotto.html Found quite an expensive copy in the folk section of a shop with a 'no listens' policy today - it looks intriguing but I don't want to gamble on a duffer, ha ha! I can't seem to find any info/tracks online, but I bow to the skills of more advanced Googlers than I... |
Subject: RE: Trotto 1970s early music From: RTim Date: 11 Sep 19 - 07:20 PM I knew some of the band - David Kettlewell (no longer with us) and Richard Brecknock - many years ago in South Hampshire - David was a good musician (he did the musical engraving for the Copper Family songbook) and played all sorts old early instruments. Richard was a fierce Fiddle player (who played a little for my first Morris team in Christchurch). Considering the times - early 70's - they stood out. Tim Radford |

Subject: RE: Trotto 1970s early music From: NOMADMan Date: 11 Sep 19 - 09:55 PM I have a copy of the LP, bought at regular price when it was still in print. It's a really good variety of material covering a long time span, very well played. If the price you are looking at is not truly outrageous, I think you should make this purchase. You're not likely to be disappointed. John Mazza (NOMADMan) |

Subject: RE: Trotto 1970s early music From: banjoman Date: 12 Sep 19 - 05:54 AM I recall a band called Trotto winning a musical competition on TV in the early 60,s ? is it the same band. |
Subject: RE: Trotto 1970s early music From: leeneia Date: 12 Sep 19 - 09:25 AM The shop wants a lot of money for an album that may be warped, scratched or loaded with dust. Meanwhile, there are many fine recordings of early music available elsewhere for less. How about you? Do you have money to burn? No debt? Retirement fully funded? If the album's ordinary, will you look at it and shrug over the waste of money? "You pays your money and you takes your chances." This sounds like a risky chance. |
