Subject: Dave Hamil Memoir Available From: Bat Goddess Date: 08 Oct 19 - 02:56 PM My friend Dave Hamil has finally published a memoir of his life as a folk musician performing in the 1950s through the 1970s mostly in the American Southwest, California, the Rocky Mountain states, and the Midwest with some incursions into the East. Dave knew and often shared houses or apartments and sometimes the stage with many now well-known performers who were on their way up. Though he was with The Back Porch Majority for awhile and often worked for Glenn Yarbrough at the Lime Light in Aspen, he preferred to travel from town to town working for smaller folk venues as a solo performer or with one or two musical partners rather than the faster paced, higher pressure life of a big time commercial folk ensemble. I helped copyedit his memoir, Those Hot Dusty Roads: An American Folksinger's Odyssey which is now available at Amazon -- Those Hot Dusty Roads It's very interesting reading! Linn |

Subject: RE: Dave Hamil Memoir Available From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 Aug 20 - 04:36 PM Dave passed away in February (which I noted here at Mudcat, but for some reason a blue clicky isn't working — "Obit: Dave Hamil Western Troubador"). His memoir (which I copyedited) is available at Amazon (Those Hot Dusty Roads ) Recently a video made a number of years ago of his amazing "silent Partner" music accompaniment machine has been posted at Vimeo. Dave built this machine to accompany himself at performances with guitar while he played the banjo. This was back in analog days a loooong time before an electronic black box was developed to do the same thing. This machine is amazing — Silent Partner There is also a CD just made available made from old audio tapes of Dave remastered by Jim Prendergast at Mill Pond Music Studio. Jim added himself accompanying Dave to most of the tracks. The CD ($20 including shipping)is available at SeasonedTimbers2020@gmail.com. The CD includes both Dave's original songs and a number of traditional songs that he performed back in his performing days. (He performed mostly in the American West — Colorado to New Mexico to California.) My copy is in the car, but anyone wants, I can list the tracks. Take a look at the Silent Partner — the engineering is amazing. Linn |
Subject: RE: Dave Hamil Memoir Available From: Bat Goddess Date: 28 Aug 20 - 09:04 AM I was going to post the track list of Dave Hamil's CD, but it was stolen out of my car the other day. Meanwhile, take a look at his incredible music machine, the Silent Partner. Dave does several songs along with the machine accompaniment to demonstrate. Linn |
