The crowd, you say?

Yes, the online videos of Corbyn meetings do show crowds. I am sure it was an absolute coincidence but the clip of Corbyn at Bristol shown on Newsnight was a head-on film, so no hint there was anyone else there at all.

The only crowd shots I have seen of Johnson are at factories where all the employees are herded to listen to the great man. Well, its a paid hour off work, isn't it?

And we know how popular the idea of having the general public around Johnson is.

Two decent blokes..
Proof that not all posh boys have to end up being ruthless wicked depraved C@ntservatives...

..and Foot had a few words to say about the extent of abuse in top ruling class boys schools...

Who knows what Tony Benn would have said right now in 2019...?????

what with the potential for some intelligent well informed folks to respond to different circumstances,
evolve, reconsider, change their minds, and all that...

Being a decent bloke does not mean you are always right.

Benn said what he did based on how the he thought the EU was going to develop. Some of those things have happened - such as the currency - and some haven't.

It is quite possible he would feel the same about the current EU. But he might put more weight on the social protections than he did. Who can know for certain? I would not be surprised if he mirrored Corbyn's 7/10 comment, more or less. Though even that is far too subtle for the all-or-nothing brigade.

I was never a fan of Wedgie Benn. His archetypal take on EC/EU was always predicated on the old lie that we are run by a "bunch of unelected bureaucrats in Brussels." What he never told us was that free trade with Europe help us to thrive; that all our domestic laws are in our own hands; that we agree with the general consensus on almost all EU regulations; that a tiny amount only of our GDP is tied up with Europe (currently about one percent); that we have a considerable say, as a larger nation, in the running of the EU; and that we have the veto on contentious major policy areas (a European army, for example). With 28 countries and half a billion people the EU, just like any big nation, suffers from the disease of gigantism (as John Seymour put it). There's plenty wrong with the EU but there's a lot more good than bad in my opinion. We haven't had another pan-European war, and neither I nor my son has ever been called up, for example. Tony Benn was a long way from being my kind of leftie. Were he still alive today. I'd be wanting to know what sort of "control" he thinks we'll have when we have to go begging to the US and China for trade deals, and when we can't get the staff to run our NHS and care system once we make those EU citizens submit to a bloody points system. Wrong about most things most of the time, Wedgie.

And, on 'Politics Live' today, we had their BBC mouthpiece, the harridan Kuenssberg, giving out that 'postal voting is going badly for Labour'. How the fuck does she know that? Don't our electoral regulations preclude that kind of information being made available?

WTF has happened to our once-greatly-admired political system?

Awe is one of a number of servers fronted by a load balancer. I assume that the background processing is also load balanced between servers too. Nothing wrong with posting to an individual server in a farm but, if that server is currently not updating the database holding the posts, you risk losing whatever you post.

There's been so many lies spreading about during this election campaign so it's good to be able to share a truthful message that I have just received from the Chief Presiding Officer of the 2019 General Election. I copy'n'paste it in full: -

"All our research has shown that the outstanding importance of the 2019 election means that there will be a record turnout and so to avoid overcrowding, we have taken the difficult decision to spread the voting time over two days. It is too late to arrange this by districts, so we are have decided to do this on a party basis.
VOTERS FOR THE FOLLOWING PARTIES TO VOTE ON 12th DECEMBER -
* Green Party
* Labour Party
* Liberal Democrat Party
* Plaid Cymru
* Scottish Nationalist Party
VOTERS FOR THE FOLLOWING PARTIES TO VOTE ON 13th DECEMBER -
* Brexit Party
* Conservative Party
* English Democrats
VOTERS FOR THE FOLLOWING PARTIES TO VOTE ON
EITHER DAY -
* Church of the Militant Elvis Party
* Monster Raving Loony Party
* Space Navies Party"

I recognise the signature at the bottom of the letter, so it must be authentic, besides, who ever saw a lie posted on Mudcat?

It's best not to use those alternate server names. Mudcat is designed to operate at this URL: https://mudcat.org/

Those other URLs are primarily for administrative access. Using them can cause us problems - at least, that's what Max told me.

There were a number of people who had cookie problems last week, and some were not able to reset their cookies for a day or two.

Max lives in State College, which seems to have some of the worst weather in Pennsylvania. He gets nasty storms that knock his power out for days on end. And then Mudcat doesn't work, and he can't tell us what's happening.

The LibDems, who are a somewhat distant second in North Cornwall, have blown it here (a solid leave area) via their Stop Brexit yarn. Also, they sent out a very dishonest leaflet to every home which contained a bar chart showing the Con/Lab/LibDem vote in 2017. The LibDem column has been significantly manipulated upwards to give the impression that the seat is far more marginal than it actually is. The brexiteers on the other hand have successfully sold the country the downright lie that the LibDem stance was undemocratic. It isn't at all, though it was naive and foolish in the extreme. So I'll hold my nose and vote LibDem, as Labour haven't got a hope in hell here, in the hope that I'm helping to oust the stinking Tory who holds our seat. My mum, a lifelong socialist, has also decided that she should vote tactically here for the LibDems. Another clothes peg on the nose.

My daughter and her partner live in the Truro and Falmouth constituency. Against expectations, Labour came close last time. They don't need any prodding from me to vote Labour.

My son and daughter-in-law live in the highly-marginal Richmond Park seat. I think they'll be voting to oust the contemptible Tory Zac Goldsmith in favour of the LibDems.

A lot of tactical voting to kick out the Tories and I highly recommend it. You may be a passionate remainer but if you vote according to your principles or tribal instincts you may effectively be voting for brexit. Let's get tactical! We can always go to confession later...

When losing you start insulting or fighting. Typical lefty traits. It can only happen when ideology replaces commonsense. Wat is striking about this election is how ill-informed we all are. The Conservative manifesto says nothing about what will happen after 2020 - i.e. for 4/5 of the lifetime of a Parliament. The whole focus of the Conservative campaign was on what happens in January 2020; almost everything else was excluded. It was also claimed that getting this 'done' would allow them to look at new hospitals and nursing levels: none of that is dependent on Brexit. There were a lot of near-idle days at the end of the last Parliamentary session where some of the groundwork for this could have been done. But it wasn't. Then again near the end of the last Parliament, but before the election was announced, Javid was supposed to present a budget, but it got pulled. During the campaign Johnson has done his best to avoid any sort of critical examination of his plans. Yes, is he is happy to go to places where can reel off his stump speech, but nowhere where he can be really challenged on its detail. The section on page 48 about the relationship between the Government and the rest (Parliament, the Lords, the courts) could mean anything from no change to the equivalent of the Enabling Act.

We all are ill-informed.

Great comment from a reader on the Guardian website (my bold):

"Whether you’re a tank-topped bum boy, a piccaninny with a watermelon smile, a Muslim bank robber, one of the feckless criminal working classes, an ill-raised and ignorant child of a single mother or just someone who feels sick at the thought of another five years of this racist, homophobic, misogynistic, absurdly privileged outcast from the Village of the Damned it’s probably a good idea to vote tactically today wherever it’s possible to give a Tory a well-deserved kicking.

I don’t care if Swinson is untrustworthy or Corbyn doesn’t watch the Queen’s Speech. Boris Johnson wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire, he’d sell off the NHS to Trump in a heartbeat, and he is definitely wanking behind that sign."

One of our candidates is an inveterate, confounded, cowardly liar who refuses interviews and hides in a fridge whilst the other (who many find unattractive for many other reasons) has bothered to put himself out and about in full exposure to promote an ambitious manifesto for putting the ordinary people of this country out of their ten-year-long misery. They looked very bored and lonely! Hope more folk turned up later (maybe in the evening) but there are many people here who are retired, so there should have been more voters around.
We haven't had any political leaflets through the door or canvassers.
