Hello

I am searching for music, CD's and links etc. to sources for English, Cornish, Welsh Christmas/Winter Solstice themed music. The search includes old carols, folk songs, seasonal ritual type music and more.

Any wonderful ballads with a Christmas theme?
Folk songs with Christmas/Winter bird themes?
Children's Christmas/Winter Solstice songs?

I know of the Wren songs etc.
Open to lesser know carols, folk tunes and ballads.
Much thanks!
Now the search begins!

I'm glad Tim called attention to the new songbook from Nowell Sing We Clear. If you go farther into the "Nowell" Website, you'll find lyrics and background information for all the songs they recorded. You'll find similar information in a slightly different format at http://www.goldenhindmusic.com/, which publishes the music of John Roberts and Tony Barrand.

The most extensive online source of Christmas music that I've found is https://www.hymnsandcarolsofchristmas.com/ - a very interesting Website to explore.

Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band produced a number of albums back in the 80s: some great stuff on them: Carols and Capers, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, and A Tapestry of Carols. There has been a more recent compilation double CD -and live concerts - featuring the best of these. Well worth investigating.
Also Barbara Dickson has a really lovely CD, simply called "Winter" - a mix of carols, solstice and other secular songs on that theme.

You might want to give a listen to Loreena MacKennit's Two albums, A Midwinter Nights Dream (all Christmas) and also her album To Drive The Cold Winter Away which has quite a few Carols on it.
