FWIW there are scientists who have located the sweet-spot in the art of learning.

Apparently you learn fastest when you are making mistakes at about 15% of the time.

I have a fridge magnet that says "I have learned so much from my mistakes, I am thinking of making another"

Mistakes like a mutation in DNA is not always a bad thing. It will take a long time to determine if the mistake is benificial or not so I'm with Big Al, mistakes are good- in the long run.

I ordered some fencing for the front of my garden. There should have been eight stakes, but the suppliers only sent seven, so now I have a flock of someone else's sheep in my front garden. I'm lying in bed lamenting that missed stake...

When I recorded my CD in 2004, my mate (who owned the recording studio) pressed the wrong button and my best shot at the Dublin Reel wasn't recorded. How I've regretted that missed take...

"Make no mistake" was a popular phrase in the 1930s & 1940s, used often in a Celia Johnson film I remember with John Mills, other sentence add ons being "I must say" and "if it's all the same to you" !!
