Subject: RE: Obit: Gahan Wilson, Nov. 22, 2019 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Dec 19 - 11:49 AM I used to read Mad Magazine (what kid from that era didn't?) but I don't remember the cartoons Jeri and Mrrzy mentioned. And I'm not sure if I'm seeing any in a search (this seems to be a well-stocked Pinterest page). I'd love to see a link to what you're talking about - I imagine they appealed entirely to kids. :) |

Subject: RE: Obit: Gahan Wilson, Nov. 22, 2019 From: CupOfTea Date: 06 Dec 19 - 12:30 AM Sigh. Another great one gone, with the more modern, and specific, cartoons of the macabre. I had a steady dose of Charles Addams from an early age though Mad Magazine never got into my house, but I did lots long hours of babysitting. I could always find the PLAYBOY stash to look at the cartoons (and sometimes read the fiction). I also remember Wilson's contribution to the SF anthology DANGEROUS VISIONS... A spot that grew...and grew... The only graphic art bit in that anthology series. In some ways, her reminded me of James Thurber, just with the weird dialed up higher. Joanne in sort of north-of-Thurber country |
