Subject: Roger W's Last farewell - Odd fact From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Dec 19 - 12:00 PM The usual sidetracks and blind alleys on an an internet search for something entirely different led me to this. Roger Whittaker's "The Last Farewell" went to number 2 in the UK charts in 1971. It was held off the top slot by Rod Stewart's "Sailing". At the date of reporting, the Wiki article states that this is the only time the top two slots in the charts were held by nautically themed songs! Follow that with your sea lions... |

Have there been many nautically themed songs in the Charts over the years ? |

Subject: RE: Roger W's Last farewell - Odd fact From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Dec 19 - 07:19 AM Apologies. It was the re-release that got to number 2 behind Sailing in September 1975, not 1971. The same chart had Funky Moped by Jasper Carrot in it. Eeeee, folk music ain't what it used to be ;-) |
