For you jazz fans, some bad news to start '00.

Nat Adderley died Sunday, here in Lakeland. He was 68 and had been suffering with diabetes. Lost a leg to it in 1996 or 7.

Always sorry to hear of a loss. I'm not a jazz follower, is he the Cannonball Adderly who had a chart hit with "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"?

Trumpeter with a fine honey sound. Most famous for "Work Song(s)", I guess. Used to have an old tape of his first album -- got to dig it out now!!

He never got the recognition that his brother did, but was a "musician's musician".

NPR's Morning Edition did a nice obituary this morning - you can listen to it here

The Adderleys also worked with Eddie "Mr Cleanhead" Vinson, very funky blues sound. (Not to be confused with today's so called jazz-funk which is IMHO often muzak).
Roger the self-opinionated old fart.
