This in light of the
defeat of the New England Patriots (January)
in a wild-card playoff game;
the Tennessee Titans defeated them,
and now have a wild-card opportunity at the Super Bowl.

Also, the Houston Texans defeated the Buffalo Bills,
this also in the wild-card playoff games.


And as this is posted,
a wild-card game is underway between
the Minnesota Vikings
and
the New Orleans Saints -- the score is a close one!

As a MD/DEL boy some of my favorites are: crab cakes, she crab soup (preferably from Crisfields on Rte. 50), steamed crabs with Old Bay seasoning and best of all, Chesapeake Bay oysters if you can find them. And those invasive Snakehead fish which are supposed to be fine fare and you'd do the bay a favor by reducing their numbers.

Sad to see my adopted Ravens go down but the Titans are clearly on a roll behind their big fast running back and powerful O line.
49'ers are also scary good.

Chiefs were down 24-0 well into the 2nd quarter and then reeled off 7 touchdowns on 7 consecutive drives. They went through a good defense like they weren't even there and win it 51-31.Unlike anything I've seen before. I hope they get to the SB, I want to see some more of those fireworks.

Chicken Booyah (you can make it with beef as well, in addition to the chicken) instead of cheese curds if Pack wins. It's a very hearty soup/stew good for a winter's day. A Cheesehead friend of mine used to make it on game day. It's not on my diet any more but it's perfect for a cold winter's day.

But this is a Mississippi river port, after all,
and right away I think of paddlewheel steamboats and all,
very Mark Twain.

A river port like that one would necessarily
link to the other Mississippi river cities in some ways.

We may have witnessed the advent of the new GOAT yesterday in Pat Mahomes. Down by 10 in the 4th quarter he led the K.C. offense to 21 straight points in the last 6 minutes on 3 consecutive touchdown drives to salt it away but give credit to the Chiefs defense as well, they shut out the 49ers O in the 4th quarter. I was happy to see old Andy Reid finally win the big one.

Quite a few fans come from Kansas, however, because we're on the state line. Ah, the Donald. He probably pronounces the s on Illinois.

Our quarterback is named Patrick, not Pat. I've never been a football fan, but my husband showed me on YouTube some of the remarkable throws that Patrick has made - down more than half the field while opponents are grabbing him, and right to a teammate running sideways across the field. They do it so well you can almost hear a click as the ball goes into the teammate's hands.

One day he saw an opening ahead of him and simply ran down the edge of the field himself to score the touchdown - something quarterbacks rarely do. The camera showed the face of the opposing coach, and his expression was mixed dismay and amusement.

Today I heard that after the game, Chiefs players were making "snow angels" in the confetti.

As usual, I went to a Jim Malcolm concert on Super Bowl Sunday. This time, Jim's wife Susie came with him and took the lead. She just sparkled...and she sings a lot of trad songs.

It was a good game but I was pretty nervous for the Chiefs well into the 4th quarter then with about 8 minutes left the K.C. offense went hurryup and that, coupled with the inability of the S.F. offense to use up much clock , just wore out the Niners D and they lost a step to the lightning fast K.C. offense. Mahomes just seemed to say "it's time to get serious" and went through the Niners like they weren't there. He was definitely endowed with the clutch gene.

Yes, I know they've used them for a long time, but this year the match was being shown in a local Cardiff (Wales) bar.
I saw the advance signage, and read "SUPERBOWL LIV @ BrewDog Fanzone". I thought it was a typo for Superbowl Live.

Yesterday there was a parade in downtown Kansas City in honor of the win. I read that 1,000,000 people attended. This is hard to believe in an urban area with 2,000,000 people in it, but even if you cut it in half, it's impressive.

It was cold day with some sleet, yet the fans showed up. There was a rally at the end of the route, and even though the stand is 2 or 3 miles from our house, we could hear (but not understand) the speeches.

Today a reporter wrote that there were so many people, body heat kept one from feeling the cold (20F or so.) That may be, but I bet it doesn't warm up the feet, especially mine.

I wasn't there. For me, the great joys of retirement are:

    not having to get up in the morning
    not having to go out in the cold
    traveling whenever I want to.

The logistics of the parade interested me. In 2015, we had a similar parade after the Royals won the World Series, and the city learned some things. This parade included

   700 portapotties
   personnel from every law enforcement body in the region
   3 re-unification centers for lost children
   5 medical tents
   cell towers on wheels to provide additional service

At one point, our quarterback demonstrated his unerring aim by pouring beer into the mouth of a player on the street as the quarterback stood on the top of a moving doubledecker bus.
