When we are practicing for gigs we tend to concentrate our time on the music rather than let distractions get in the way. But today political discussion reared its ugly head and it was all downhill from there.

Let this be a sad warning to you all as to what can happen when you mix the two.

Why we avoid politics during band music practices...

Preserving your sanity during an election year is a matter of expectation. Expect;duplicity, lies, fakenews, canned indignation, freeze dried indignation, spin, rinse, drain etc.
I make fun of it but you may prefer making cookies.

Well, unless you got together with the intention of being political, it is inevitable that there will be difference underlying.

On a PC at work so I can't listen.

Klezmer folks are remarkably good at not talking about Zionism. They've probably been not talking about it ever since Zionism was invented in the late 19th century - starting a fight at a wedding is not a great way to get repeat bookings.

Perhaps people are to used to assuming that discussion leads to conflict on Mudcat. It wasn't that sort of experience!

Jack Campin: I guess you avoid Kennedy family reunions, too!

The best thing to do in a case like this is to find someone else and start playing music with that person. People will soon get back in the swing of playing music.

No danger for me; I could hardly understand a word they said. Something about Ophelia. Well, it is still early in the morning for me; maybe when I'm more awake ....
