Give me your favorite month related and/seasonal songs! Can be old, new, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Australian, Newfoundlandish, outlandish or odd. What does folk mean? What’s traditional? Who cares? Not this s*d. |

From: Helen Date: 18 Jan 20 - 09:30 PM Song to hope for the breaking of the Australian drought: When the Rain Tumbles Down in July by the late, great Slim Dusty, who also wrote and sang The Pub With No Beer, which has been sadly relevant during the current bushfires in some places in Oz, due to the roads being cut and power being cut, so no beer supplies and no electricity to run the beer pumps. Even sadder, a beer truck crashed and spilled precious beer all over the road. |

I'm 10,000 miles away from my script for the program, but a few days from now when I'm back home I may remember to look for it. I think for May I played Streets of Forbes, an Australian bushranger ballad, which has the stanza, Ben went to Goobang creek, where upon the 5th of May, The troopers filled him full of lead, as in his sleep he lay, They wrapped him in a blanket, and they rolled him like a swag, They lead him through the streets of Forbes, To show what a prize they had! |

There are of course plenty of songs about Napoleon that mention the eighteenth of June, at least one with that as its usual title. Besides Dave Goulder's January Man, another one that goes through the months, but facetiously, is Flanders and Swann's "A song of the weather", though it applies particularly to England.
