It's a valuable resource for someone who wants to learn the songs, or just analyze how the melodies work, even if they don't know the Greek alphabet. I've listened to Rosa's recordings, and I find that kind of thing fascinating but hard (for me) to work out by ear. I could see myself trying to stumble through it on a melody instrument, just for my own amusement. |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Rosa Eshkenazy songbook From: Jack Campin Date: 22 Jan 20 - 03:26 PM Those songs can sound amorphous at first if you don't have notation to look at. The book seems to leave out some of her best known numbers, I don't have enough Greek to work out why. The spectacular "Ime prezakias" in praise of hard drugs is one. We're doing "Hariklaki" with the band. That one I could work out by ear. |

There's a Wikipedia page (click) that tells her story quite well, and a nice piece on her at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77yOmXUcfEU. There are lots of examples of her performances on YouTube. Here's one: -Joe- |
