I ate the shark meat and drank the brennevin when I was in Iceland. We were only offered small samples. When I travel, I try to eat whatever I'm offered.
The best thing I ate in Iceland was skyr, and I'm glad that it's available here in the US although I'd never noticed it before my trip. When I came home, I could only find it at Whole Foods markets, but now I can find it at supermarkets and even some smaller markets.

Further to what Joe said, I heard fish and chips in Australia is quite likely to be shark and chips.

My bad, I didn't stop to think
what the OP was trying to say -- Jack Campin got it right.

The OP must have intended:
"we are eating food which are made by the old Viking way."

And I got all mixed up about feet and witches ...
I do apologize.

Rúgbrauð is delicious, and so is Icelandic wild mushroom soup. There are recipes for both on the WWW.

I ate haggis this evening, for the first time in my life. I actually liked it.

(Sorry, thread drift.)

What about music, Skarpi? Do you play good traditional tunes?

Me, I'm a sissy. I didn't even want to eat the squishy sea-creatures they put on my plate in France. When nobody was looking, I sneaked them onto my husband's plate.

I've had shark in restaurants that was absolutely delicious. The meat was firm and flavorful. But I'm not sure I could handle this Icelandic stuff.

Hákarl: "Fermented shark contains a large amount of ammonia and has a strong smell, similar to many cleaning products. It is often served in cubes on toothpicks. Those new to it may gag involuntarily on the first attempt to eat it because of the high ammonia content. First-timers are sometimes advised to pinch their nose while taking the first bite, as the smell is much stronger than the taste. It is often eaten with a shot of the local spirit, a type of akvavit called brennivín." (Wikipedia)

I think he meant "food".

Tomorrow is the start of the Year of the Rat. Which suggests what the British might be eating to commemorate Brexit Day in the centuries after it's all over. Rotten shark? Luxury.
