Bob Kirkpatrick has been allocated a place in the audience of Question Time tonight from Weymouth.

Who says folksingers never get on prime time TV?

I say 'Fie!' and 'Pshaw!' to anyone would would suggest such a thing. My sensitive portrayal of 'Southampton supporter behind Ipswich goal' will live on in the hearts of all who saw it on 'Match of the Day', while the clip of me stamping David Cassidy's passport at Luton Airport has been aired at least five times, including the 'Top of the Pops' Christmas special.

"gardeners question time is good, will hebe appearing on that too"

That was very good. Did you do it on purpose?

I was in the audience for a Question Time from the Eden Project years ago and was selected by Bumblebee to make an extremely boring comment about the House of Lords, goaded via elbow jab by my son sitting next to me.

When we were there everyone was invited to write two questions down on a piece of paper. Behind the scenes they selected a shortlist of questions and called their authors to a little briefing to tell them what would happen if their question was selected to be used and what they had to do. We didn't get picked but I knew a woman who did. In the end, her question wasn't included on the show. The show was recorded about an hour before it went out. I still have a VHS recording of it which I can't view. Not a single thing was altered by editing. Even the theme tune was included, played very loudly in the theatre. Very slick. Just before it started a warm-up man got us all a bit loosened up and invited us to heckle at will. The panel that night was Shami Chakrabarti, Margaret ****ing Hodge, Liam Fox, a LibDem bloke who was later disgraced in a rent-boy sex scandal and someone else who I can't remember. Or was it just four in those days. Let's see if Bob gets his question picked.

I also attended an Any Questions a few years ago. Apart from a lightweight LibDem (she later lost her seat and is now in the Lords) and a lightweight Tory, we had Peter Hain and, guess who, Nigel Farage... The famous (in these parts) Dan the fish man from Clovelly, whose missus was a teacher at my school, made absolute mincemeat of the panel but I can't remember on what subject!

Sounds like the warm up for Hughie Greene I witnessed a few times when working at Thames TV in the sixties- probably the same bloke

Sounds a lot more responsible than the Robert Kilroy Silk programme I was on. Not sure it ever got broadcast. The bastard wanted me to criticise the guy next to me, I was being my usual helpful self.
Smarmy git that people think he is, he certainly lived up to the image.

Bob has had a lot of tragedy in his life this last year. He has had huge invasive terrible surgery, and his long term partner (julie) has died.

he hasn't really had the heart to do all the wonderful things he did - writing songs, running a folk club, appearing at festivals.

I was glad to see him getting out and I'm sure we all hope he feels ready to get folking again.

Thank you Al - I'm also glad that Bob has been getting out and hope to hear him sing before very long. Especially as, by now, those of us in the UK probably all hate the rain too!

Kitty

I Hope bob enjoyed the experience, apparantly the latest programme had one speaker who went on a right wing rant, not bobs fault, but it must have been an embarassment for him.
the producers background is interesting
‘Audience Producer at BBC Question Time’, and member of the British Patriotic Front Facebook group. She also promotes ‘Britain First’ online.

The role of the Audience Producer is to select the people who will form the audience, as this ‘Behind the Scenes’ article confirms:

“According to the the Question Time website, the heart of the programme is its audience. “We don’t invite anyone” said Hopkin. “We have a dedicated producer who chooses a representative audience that reflects the demographic length. It is an honestly picked audience.” Every week audience producer Alison Fuller has to select the audience and, depending on the city they are in, this can mean considering more than 4,000 applications. This process involves checking the background of every applicant against their political affiliations, campaign involvements, advertising intentions, and many other factors. As the 150 people she selects are intended to embody the image of their city in the eyes of the programme’s nationwide audience, her job is one of the most important for the programme’s production.”

I remember Bob from when we were both young floorsingers together doing floorspots at Nuneaton Arts Centre and the first Blackthorn Club run by Nina Ssifriz at Coleshill.

He can't remember me. I was surprised when I retired down here to find him running a folk club in the next village.

Nearly fifty years ago now. We 'not proper folksingers' are nearly old enuff to set up our own tradition.

I `ad that Fiona Bruce in my cab the other day. As per normal she was looking a thousand dollars and what long legs!
I said, " Morning Duchess. Where we going today?"
She said, "Good morning to you Jim. We`re just off to a castle in Kent to do "The Antiques Road Show."
I said, "Oh, not a "Question Time" then. It`s getting a good coverage on that "Mudcat" at the moment?"
She sighed, "I know. I`ve read it all before."
I said, "I reckon some of `em of `ave got good points though. I never realised `ow much vetting and "geeing up" of the audience there was, and you do seem to wheel on some old favourites who shall remain nameless for fear of being called non-PC."
She said, "We try to be as balanced as possible."
I said, "What would `appen if then one of your panel was of the opinion that climate change didn`t matter at all `cos we`re all going one way in the end."
She said, "We`d `ave a riot on our `ands!!."

Whaddam I Like??

Well i think the whereabouts and welfare of someone like Bob Kirkpatrick is a related to music.

Bob is known to dozens of people on the folkscene in the UK.
