Subject: Obit: Keith Brown (Morley Folk C) 19.02.20 RIP
From: GUEST,Peter Clayton
Date: 24 Feb 20 - 11:51 AM

Keith's wife, Annette asked me to pass on this message:
"My dear friends, it is with heartache and sorrow that I must tell you that on Wednesday 19th February at 12 : 45 my beloved husband of 42 years Keith lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. It goes without saying that myself and our children are heartbroken, he was our world. Xx"

Keith was active as a musician, singer MC and organiser on the UK folk scene from the early 1970s in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Louth and, most recently, Morley. He was massively enthusiastic about traditional music and had great charisma and a wicked sense of humour. His influence was an inspiration to many to attend the clubs and participate in the music.

I joined his band as a very very novice guitarist in 1971 when I was 16 knowing almost nothing about folk music. He told me that if I was to be in the band I couldn't just play only one instrument and promptly put a mandolin in my hand telling me to take it home and learn it. It took some time but I did learn to play well enough to use it in the band. When I showed interest in the fiddle he loaned me his spare to take home for as long as I needed it. Nearly 50 years later I have a range of my own instruments and I'm still passionate about the music, particularly fiddle music - I play most days and now write tunes and attend sessions, gigs and festivals. In some ways I think Keith gave me one of the most long-lasting and valuable gifts I've ever had. He will be greatly missed by me and by many.
Peter Clayton

I didn't know Keith but heard about this on Monday when Phil Cockerham did a song for him at Skipton folk club.

My condolences to his family and friends.
