Subject: Bukka White - new compilation From: Stewie Date: 04 Jan 00 - 02:42 AM I draw to the attention of those who may be interested the recent reissue of Bukka White material: Bukka White 'Shake 'Em on Down' Catfish KATCD 106. This compilation by Paul Swinton assembles on one CD all of White's commercially released pre-war sides, plus 2 sides recorded for the Library of Congress. In addition to his classics, such as 'Fixin' To Die', there are 2 gloriously growled gospel pieces - 'I am in the heavenly way' and 'Promise true and grand' - with Miss Minnie (Memphis Minnie) supplying the harmony vocal. The remastering by Dennis Blackham is superb. As the compiler rightly notes, it documents 'one of Mississippi's greatest blues artists at the very height of his powers'. Stewie. |
