Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 20 - 09:38 AM Troll this, Joe - looks like your "Obamaphones" & "public computers" are falling down on the job. A Crisis In Education: Schools Can’t Reach Thousands Of Children During its first week of distance learning, Clark County School District in Nevada ? which serves about 320,000 students ? made contact with about 309,000 kids via email, phone calls or “progress demonstrated through a learning management system,” a spokesperson wrote HuffPost. That still leaves around 11,000 students the district was unable to reach. Atlanta Public Schools reported that after the first two weeks of school closures, about 84% of students in pre-K through 12th grade had logged in to any district application daily. Over 6,000 kids have failed to get online. In Los Angeles, 40,000 high school students have not been in daily contact with their teachers, and 15,000 have failed to complete any schoolwork since schools closed on March 16, according to the Los Angeles Times. |

Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: Jack Campin Date: 03 Apr 20 - 12:08 PM All the Edinburgh festivals off. That's huge. Wimbledon't. That has more effect than any of the others, since it turns millions of people into couch potatoes every year. |
Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 03 Apr 20 - 10:34 AM From the Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy/Willie Clancy Summer School website: Coronavirus Notice from Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy Like other organisations with events scheduled for June, July and August, Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy is anxiously monitoring the current health crisis. We propose to wait until around mid-May to see if the situation improves before we make any announcements. If, at that point, the authorities are satisfied summer schools and festivals can take place during these months, then we may be in a position to run the summer school. But if circumstances remain critical then the 2020 school cannot be run. |

Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: GUEST,Peter Date: 01 Apr 20 - 09:01 AM Cropready announced that they were still hoping to go ahead four days ago. Another festival (sorry, confidential info, no names) is making contingency plans for cancellation and have a decision point for a no-go announcement later this month. Personally I think that we will be seeing UK restrictions running into August. I just hope that we are far enough through all this to allow clubs to reopen for their 20/21 season in the autumn. |
Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: Felipa Date: 31 Mar 20 - 05:16 PM I almost didn't look at this thread, because my immediate reaction was that EVERY meeting and event between now and the summer is cancelled. But it was a different situation in many places "way" back on the 12 of March when this discussion thread started. St. Patrick's celebrations of various kinds throughout Ireland were cancelled about a week ahead of time. By mid March, the various groups and the club meetings that I would have participated in in N. Ireland were cancelled indefinitely. That was before the UK and Irish governments made official restrictions. NI Family History Society has cancelled all meetings for spring and summer. HALSWAY MANOR residential folk course venue in Somerset England is closed till June 1. Subject to review the closure may be extended. NONSUCH DULCIMER CLUB, UK, has cancelled its annual long weekend workshop which was scheduled for late October, rather than going ahead with plans and possibly finding they have to cancel in the end up. The venue is allowing the group's deposit to be held over until 2021. Looking through this discussion thread, I've learned of many groups and festivals I didn't know about - several of great interest to me - and learned that the next North Atlantic Fiddle Convention will be in Ireland. Somethings to look forward to in 2021 or 2022? |

But I cannot tell) Hedgehogs are in danger of extinction in the UK. There are now fewer than a million left. I do rescue and rehabilitation on a small scale and saw fewer hogs last summer than ever before, and all brought to me for rescue perished. If you live in the UK help the hogs by growing pollinating plants, ensuring that your fence allows hogs to reach neighboring gardens, avoiding pesticides, and leaving some areas of the garden untidy |

A lot of festivals scheduled for June (that I list) have not posted cancellations (as of today). |
Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: GUEST,Some bloke Date: 21 Mar 20 - 01:19 PM Sadly, we have cancelled Epworth Music Day, here in North Lincs which this year would have been 20 June. Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: Vic Smith Date: 19 Mar 20 - 08:01 AM Graham of GPS Presentations, Uckfield, Sussex Hi everyone, Due to the latest government guidelines regarding the Coronavirus I have cancelled the Barber & Taylor gig due to be held on 19 April and also the Jim Crawford one due to be held on 24 May. Any tickets already paid for will be fully refunded. The position regarding the 24 June gig with Veronica Sbergia & Max De Bernardi will be reviewed in a month's time when we will all know more about the likely outcome of the Coronavirus crisis. At present the Uckfield Blues & Roots Festival 2020 is still going ahead on 24th, 25th and 26th July with the position being monitored on a regular basis. Tickets will shortly go on sale with the proviso that should the festival be cancelled all ticket money will be refunded. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy some live music in June or July but meanwhile do take care. Kind regards Graham |
Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: Vic Smith Date: 19 Mar 20 - 07:11 AM From Cheque-Mates Folk 'N' Roots Music Club, School Lane, Hopwas, Near Tamworth Dear All, Reluctantly and wisely, we are following advise to postpone our club and therefore we will not be celebrating the Irish tonight after all. We had a chat with the steward, Jabba, and he says it will be evident that the club itself will have to close. The Hopwas Beer Festival is also postponed. Those of you who are performers it’s a chance to look at replenishing our repertoire, and plenty of time to rehearse in our lounges at home!! Save money on the beer and be healthy! We will be back as soon as things improve. It all seems a bit surreal, and the first time the club has been closed other than a move and a refurbishment of the venue in 29 years! Keep Music live in our Homes and stay Health Happy and Well!! You can still hear Claret on the radio see below! Please take a listen thank you! Best Wishes, Keeping Music 'Live' Tim and Sandra Robinson Claret Celebrating 30 Years, and Cheque-Mates Folk 'N' Roots Music Club |
Subject: RE: Coronavirus Cancellations From: Vic Smith Date: 18 Mar 20 - 05:04 PM Traditional Song Forum 18 March 2020 The Folk Voice Conference in Sheffield is postponed I am sure that, like me, you will have had a seemingly unending stream of messages telling you about events cancelled and organisations pulling in their horns. Sadly, I must add to the pile with the not unexpected news that we are going to have to delay the Folk Voice Conference that was planned for 6th June. It is a great shame because the proposals for papers that we have received include some really original and interesting ideas, and I am longing to hear them. But we are all going to have to wait until the current difficulties have subsided. The organising team remains totally committed to the idea and it will happen. Thank you to all those who have submitted proposals for papers. We are holding them carefully and we will be in touch. There will be a further call for papers when we have a new date so, if you had a nearly formed idea that you didn't quite get around to submitting - keep thinking! Best wishes to all and keep healthy! Martin Graebe |
