While we were lulled into propogandized sleep, China has vaccinated 9 million people. They are also poised to vaccinate the middle east, Africa, South America and Mexico, Russia and South East Asia.

Meanwhile back on the farm Trump refused Pfizer's intial offer for 100 million doses so we are at the back of the line for them. We will face an intentional shortage with less effective vaccines. Supply and demand will raise prices?

Well in Kent we now have 6 of the top 10 infected areas in England. The rates are continuing to rise. By the end of the week we might have all 10 of the most infected areas in England.

Matt Hancock has announced the testing of all schoolchildren. Didn't anyone tell him that we have had the Kent test for years?

The Pfizer/BioNTech and the Oxford AztraZeneca vaccines have both been tested on >20,000 people.
The normal number of people tested for medicines licencing is anything between 300 and 3,000
These are not untested vaccines.

From CNN, there were two health care workers, who carried an adrenaline auto-injector who had anaphylactoid reactions. The vaccine is supposed to stimulate the immune system, people with serious allergies have overly vigilant immune systems. This isn't a surprise reaction, but it would be good if they could reduce the possibility of a reaction.

It was close enough to "fear-mongering" for me to think of it as such. the "we have *no clue* what injecting..." is bullshit. They have a clue that it will provoke an immune response. I think most of us are fairly inured to most irrational fear of the unknown (to them, at least).

As for "People who are not frontline workers, like me, can afford to wait, though.", we don't have a choice in the US. I'll get the vaccine whenever I can, but I figure I'm not at the top of the list.

Those of us who aren't afraid will hopefully be enough to protect those who won't, or don't, get the shot from being infected, but it's pretty far off.

And the Pfizer vaccine has, through this field-testing by just giving vaccines to the populace, already been found to be too dangerous for people with -wait for it- bad allergies. One blicky.

I was *not* fearmongering. These vaccines are untested for anything other than efficacy.

This is a new *type* of vaccine. We have *no clue* what injecting rna can do. When they first started the polio vaccines hundreds of children got polio till they figured out how to use viruses in vaccines. And that is just an example.

People who are not frontline workers, like me, can afford to wait, though. Not at all saying it isn't worth the risk if you are such a worker. Just saying it *is* a risk.

Just a snippet from today's Guardian: rich western nations with 14% of the world's population have bought up 53% of the vaccines. Canada, for example, has bought enough vaccine to vaccinate everyone in the country five times over.

That news has caused me to completely lose interest in where I might be on the UK priority list...

A few days ago there were reports, and pictures, of Russians being administered the Sputnik covid 19 vaccine in Moscow.

The BBC news service said that "Russia is starting its Covid-19 vaccination programme, with clinics in the capital Moscow inoculating those most at risk from the virus.
Its own vaccine Sputnik V, which was registered in August, is being used."

This morning BBC Radio 4 news reported that a 90-year-old woman was the first person in the world to receive a covid 19 vaccine outside of a trial as part of its development.

On the local news I heard there might be as many as tens of thousands of vaccine doses headed to Alaska that might be available as soon as next week. Now there are half a million folks all over the state so I reckon the doses will be apportioned to:

* Health Professionals
* Elderly and At-Risk Health Situations
* Native and Bush Community.

Since a double dose is the standard treatment, that amount of doses will be absorbed relaively quickly even if, as I understand, a high percentage of my fellow Alaskans will not be eager to undergo vaccination. But it will establish a good base of people who will be examples of folks who got the shot early and did not get sick.

Good news!

I assume "high profile folks" means people who are successful at sports, or who appear on television programmes with high viewing figures.

If so, the chances of my recognising them (or even having heard of them), let alone being persuaded to follow their examples, are vanishingly small.

I have read that Catherine the Great got a cowpox / smallpox vaccination in the early 1800s. Apparently it was not done in public and the vaccinating doctor was prepared to flee if things did not go well.

Things went well.

On tonight's news I heard that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip may be 'first adopters' with the new vaccine. Maybe there will be a public presentation. If only Lucy Worsley can make it!

Maybe Rudy Giuliani can recover some of his lost sparkle with a similar presentation from his hospital room.

It seems that shaming politicians for breaking their own rules is a futile effort. Every day or two I read about someone who decamped for some far away luxury location. I suspect the California politicians who were scolded a few days ago were at the same meeting as these Texas legislators, a week-long 50-people meeting in a Maui luxury hotel. "But ethics watchdogs have long criticized the conference, calling it a junket that hands lobbyists a captive audience of state lawmakers." The industry representatives and corporate sponsors paid $10,000 each to attend. I can't manage to post a link to the ePaper version of this story and it isn't in the html side of things yet.

You're asking the right man. I am a massive cheese aficionado as it happens. But which cheese? Well now. A firm Westcountry farmhouse cheddar would both be not smelly enough and would be a lamentable waste of cheese. I once bought a disgustingly overripe Brie at the pannier market in Barnstaple (bloody delicious). It ticked the stinky box...but it was very soft, too snot-like... I'm not a Stilton man, pongy though it is, and it can be a bit crumbly, which wouldn't fit the bill ("fit the bill"...cheese up nose...see what I did there?) So, for good stink, wide availability and good nostril-friendly texture, I'm going for...

Saint Agur!

I did read the thing end to end, and I found it rather shallow and unnecessary. We don't need to be patronised by a facile metaphor into realising that multiple strategies are needed from all of us to fight the virus. Just give us the unadorned facts. His clever yarn called for far more mental processing than hard facts ever would. And he seemed to be implying that measured naysaying (Steve's take on masks???) could be misinformation. As one of my favourite lecturers used to say if we got a bit flowery in our essays, what we don't need is empty cleverness. Great message, misfire delivery. That's all.

Just ran across this metaphor. Swiss cheese model of pandemic transmission: sure, the Mask slice has holes, but combined with handwashing and social distancing and all the other slices with their holes, you end up with no holes going all the way through. And don't let the Misinformation Mouse nibble any one layer away: sure masks aren't a 100% effective barrier but so what? They are only one slice of our model. Anyway:

Blicky.

I did, and I responded at 01.52 pm yesterday. I doubt whether you'll agree with any of it, but hey ho. As I keep saying, I have my opinions and I'm neither a mask rebel nor an anti-mask campaigner. Just a doubter. As it happens, I've just come in from wearing the damn thing for hours this afternoon, just like everyone else. As I think there's a chance that masks may in many circumstances do more harm than good, I think it's fine to voice those doubts. With the approved vaccines so far, on the other hand, the science firmly supports both their efficacy and their safety. Many vaccine doubters are campaigning against vaccines and many are loudly grandstanding their refusal to have it. Now that's what I CALL irresponsible.

Anyone who sez that to me is in for a bollocking. I've been bollocked here for casting doubts on the efficacy of mask-wearing even though I wear masks wherever I'm supposed to. If I'm wrong about masks, which I may well be, at least I'm not behaving irresponsibly. In my book vaccine-refusers would be much worse.

The only "risk" attached to approved vaccines is that they won't work as well as predicted. Just think: half the people in the trials received a fake "vaccine" that was totally ineffective. The streets are not strewn with the corpses of either of the two cohorts. if you're offered the vaccine the responsible thing is to take it. You may just be contributing to herd immunity. Don't take it, maybe catch the virus and spread it around a bit? You think that's a respectable stance? Down to you, of course. Free country.

An inside look into the effective Covid vaccines;
Neither vaccine contain dead corona virus or 'living' covid virus like in the old vaccine making methods.

A new method of reproduction of the RNA in one segment of the virus that comprise only the little spikes on the virus body are being used.

This has been a new technique that has been researched for some time to make one vaccine against all flu varients by using only part of the tail or head of the flu virus. There are so many different types of flu
that progress has been slow, but here in town Dr. Fauci has soldiered on to solve the universal flu vaccine puzzle at NIH down the street.

Perhaps one day the universal flu vaccine will owe a debt to the success in the covid vaccine but the general new technique started here.

I'm nearly 62..

Over the last half century no men in my close family
have yet survived long enough to get to 70.

So knowing our luck, no matter how hard I try to stay alive,
I'm fatalistically resigned to reality
that any other cause of death is out to get me
well before a covid vaccine is proven conclusively safe..

Therefore, considering the prevailing most likely threat of immediate premature fatality..
.. it kinda inclines me to risk a jab asap...
